Biggest tyres with 2" body lift

I have a couple of questions about tyres,

    1. What is the biggest sensible tyre you can fit under a 4 door with a 2 inch body lift. Guard cuts and flares may be an option.
    2. What is the widest tyre you can fit on a 6.5 inch rim

    32" IMO
once you go 33" or more you really need to start looking at castor correcting font and rear arms, slotted balls double cardigan drive shafts etc
probably worth it but doing it cheaply stay under 33"
BTW more than a 33" will still fit but it will not be very good on corners.
if its a weekender go for it, if you drive it every day stay @32

? Tyre size has no effect on the above, going from 32-33" tyres does nothing to castor

Anyhow, with flares anything upto 35" will fit

ok your right , not thinking straight was more for the 2"body lift.
what I can say is that mine had a 2"body lift with 33"s , handled like crap. A bit scary at times.
removed body lift, fitted 32"tryes and it now drives like it should.

Sorry to hijack your thread Pete, but while people were discussing lifts, I thought I may ask a question... I'm looking at putting new springs in my 86 Classic soon, as the originals are a bit saggy. I only have 31" muddies on it, and only use the car for medium off road stuff. I was thinking that as I am replacing them, to put a small lift in at the same time - only thinking 1 1/2" to 2" max- does a small spring lift like this effect things too much in the steering geometry without further modification? Don't want to spend heaps, or modify too much if I can help it. Also does this sort of lift effect the self leveling thinggy in the back?

    Cheers - Gav

    Hi Gav,

You can get away with up to a 2" lift without effecting thing to much. Most 2" kits don't even give you 2"s. Having said that every D1 / RRC is unique and while some handle fine others will need castor correction bushes. It's a suck it and see type thing. Not a big deal, I'm putting some in at the moment.

As for the self leveling I think you just move the bracket for it down by what ever your lift is.
    Cheers, David.

won't affect caster. may make steering a bit heavier. Spring height is the only way caster will be affected.

I think there is a bit of confusion, we are talking body and not spring lift?
