Help with 1982 Classic

I have an 82 RR. 265000km.

I've always used engine oil in the gearbox - never a problem- 20w50. Stiff gear change might be clutch cylinder(s) giving a bit (master or slave) I've changed both once now.

If brake pedal is going to the floor you can check the obvious things like swelling flexible hoses or leaking fluid, or needing bleed - but here's one that has happened to me twice - master cylinder seals go. And there is no outward signs - fluid just stays inside.

get a one man bleed kit that uses a spare wheel/tyre for pressure. A million times easier (and you dont need the wife!) and you can just open them one by one. Each front caliper has 3 bleed nipples. Buy loads of fluid and run it right through.

Anyway stick your finger in the hole & if it stinks like gear oil I'd dump it & fill it with ATF rather than spend $30 a liter on syntrans and hopefully it will shift like it is supposed to.

What ? ATF in a LT95 !! You must be Joking !!Whatever is going in your engine should be going into the Gearbox main and transfer case
If you really want to look after it then REDLINE Lightweight Shockproof ,or Royal Purple Maxgear , bloody expensive !!

Actually,its very important that you have the Metal Pump gears,the Oil pump Fibre modified , the pump relief properly adjusted and locked if you want a decent life out of the box.

I think you'll find ATF in an LT95 is pretty common.

I think you will find that only the illinformed put ATF in the LT95 , and it is NOT common !! methinks your getting the 5 speed boxes,ie Lt85,Lt77,LT77s confused with the 4 speed LT95.
I dont Know of any respectable Indy or even the stealers that would recommend the use of ATF in the LT95 .
Where ATF can give the illusion of better/smoother gearshifts , this indicates a problem with Oil pump arrangement being faulty or worn out synchros .

As always, I find it is better to find out from the people who 'have been there & back again' rather than just rely upon manuals and straight data only.

While there were lots of good arguments both ways, I think I'll go with using engine oil.
