    Can't stay away!

    G'day fellas..

I had an 86 rangey a few years back. After selling it in 2010 and constantly regretting it, I finally found another in my price range..

Going to go look at a nice white 87 auto v8 tomorrow...I can't wait!

Speaking of which. Anything in particular I should be wary of? This one is stock standard compared to my old off-road modded one.
It's done 430,000kms but has had a new engine put in at 300,000, new radiator, air con, distributor, air flow meter, some other new stuff (can't remember off top of my head) as well as brand new peddars suspension.

hi mate, i bought my ex-comp (BAD idea if any one was wondering haha) for $1000 and it had just about everything that could go wrong with it. i wont and dont have enough time to run through the list of stuff iv fixed on it, all i can say is
listen for any knocks or bumps in suspention

look for the white gunge under the oil cap

take it upto 100kmph if poss to make sure it wont get hot

check ALL electrc functions from the alt light to the hazard lights

there will be oil leaks, most likley from the engine/g.box/and powersteering box, just good to notice for price negotiations.

also, not that theire knowen for it atall haha RUST, tailgate, footwells, rear cross member and every where els thats not alloy

    Cheers, Andy

You are buying a very old car which is in the twilight of its life.
You can expect things to go wrong progressively/constantly.

Some things I can think of.
    Brake calipers, rubber hoses
Auto trans.( pretty well overdue) This is the big one
    transfer case rebuild
    diff bearings
    starter
    alternator
    power windows
    heater core
    radiator
    rad hoses
    steering box
    steering column
Injection now VERY old so flapper, injectors ( pretty hard to get), etc

if you could buy one with say 160Kk then it would be much better, but even mine has 208KK on it now.
If you can afford a later car such as a 89 on, these are a better proposition as the injection is more modern, the wiring is much better . the best would be a 94 soft dash as simply they are 7 years younger but more complicated with air bags .
My pick and my car for 12 years is a 92 Vogue. These do not have leather, power seats , sunroof, ABS, or air suspension, but do have power windows , central lock etc etc .

    Regards Philip A
Whoops almost forgot. If it has a sunroof it will almost certainly have rust in the roof under structure, and maybe in the floors. I have seen a drivers side floor completely disappear from this.

PhillipA , the Flapper motor injectors are easy and cheap and plentiful its the Flapper and good ECU's that are getting harder and harder to Find. PS , the next is the TPS ,new ones cost an arm and a Leg !!
