    Question Transmission Service

Howdy Folks. LennardJ's recent post has got me thinking. I need to book in for a Transmission service (And the viscous) Can anyone point me in the direction of somebody in Melbourne that they've been really happy with and trust completely? I'm pretty much happy to do everything else D.I.Y. and am not scared of the odd cylinder head change or cooling system replacement but Auto's have a certain degree of Voodoo that has me scared! The previous owner had the car 'regularly serviced' at his trusted mechanic. I bought the car with a known leak from one of the trans cooler lines. The guy I bought it from assured me that his mechanic said it was normal and something that just needed cleaning monthly and would be extremely expensive to diagnose. 5 minutes with a head torch and a a quarter of a turn with a $10 shifter spanner and it hasn't leaked since!

I'd suggest J. Pringle Automotive in Leveson St, North Melbourne.

I had my Disco 2 auto serviced today by them and I was very happy with the job they did.

They are apparently regarded as the one of the best auto transmission workshop's in Melbourne by many in the motor trade, and they are always very busy. I walk past the workshop most mornings on the way to work and they have seem to have plenty of Landy's go through the workshop.

    cheers
    Paul

Thanks fellas! Would the (viscous) transfer be something that am Auto Trans place would regularly service (and be familiar with) or is it something best left to a RR specialist?

All that your transfer case needs is scheduled oil changes, no special skill required. The transfer case runs auto trans fluid. Unlike the auto, there are no adjustments or filters to change. If you do it yourself, with your stated level of skill you could keep an eye on the wear in the centre splines- a bit of a search on here will explain this.
