thanks for the info guys, anyone know how much it costs for a excange or recon?
not to sure on having manual steering on a big rangie, my dato was bad enough, although it does sound cheaper than buying new pump, hoses and box

i went through 1L of p/s fluid i the last 5000kms just to give you guys an idea of how bad the leaks are haha

    cheers, andy

    Steering Box

    HI rrc80,

I purchased a 3 bolt steering box from wreckers who said it didn't leak.....had it fitted by local mechanic and wasted $195.00c (+ fitting) .....still leaks (not as bad as yours) and currently on my (bucket list) of things to do on my 81 RRC ........

Most three bolt steering boxes (from wreckers etc) are worn well past their use by date so steer well clear of them ....ha ha

Recon unit exchange (or if they will do it) exchange it for a 4 bolt (from Disco) with fittings modified to suit your RRC (supplied and fitted) you won't get much change from around $1,200.00c from Peter at Rovercraft in Kenwick.

I will also be taking Stumps advice and check out Mark at Beechboro 4x4 to see what his pricing is like.

Others have (from this site) purchased replacement new/recon units from UK etc but I'm unsure of cost and what's involved.

Good luck and don't forget to post how you went with this.

    Cheers

Hi Stumpy I have no idea if it will fit. It was for an early model rangie. As Philip says you will need strong arms.
I bought it just before BritParts closed up in Star St some years ago as I knew somebody who was looking for one ..but he didnt want it in the end so I still have it. What I am asking is what I paid for it.
I have just thrown out 5 power steering boxes some that only needed seals.
I did advertise them in the markets section for free but I had no takers so they went on the verge collection..Jan this year.
To answer the question I would just buy a new one from ebay or the UK $750 is the cheapest I have seen.
