Thread: total cooling system overhaul

i was going to put them in front of the rad (or a/c condencer if it goes back in) and run a viscos fan and cowling behind the rad. the car i got them of was runing them infront of the rad so i just asumed that would be ok. kind of want to keep the viscos fan incase a water crossing kills the thermos.

Well I agree. I didn't want to rain on your parade but for hot low range work IMHO viscous is still best. But some people disagree with that .

So you do not/cannot have a shroud in front of the radiator of course.

do you know any part numbers/engine details that i can use to get a fan/viscos/pump that youre talking about. as there seems to be a million and one waterpumps and fans fitted to these things and i was having a hard time finding the parts even for my own model.

that wiring diagram looks good and better than what i was thinking and once i manage to get my head around it,i might well use that one.

All 3.5 and 3.9 with injection have a screw on viscous with a white nylon 11? blade fan. So to be safe ask for a 3.9 set. This is not cheap all up but probably worth buying new as the fans can explode when old.

I think a Falcon viscous fits a 3.9 pump, and just needs the blades trimmed. Do a search as there are quite a few posts.

hi Mike, im away to go and have a look at your thermo diagram. you been through those tracks befour? how deep are the mudholes round the cornor after you go down the hill? my mate recons he sunk a suzuki up tothe windows down there so we wernt to keen on trying it haha.

what coolant does everyone use? everyone thinks the toyota coolant is the dogs nuts, that may have been the case a few years back but i cant even count how many toyota waterpumps on their new models that use the super long life stuff iv had to replace. corollas, camrays, hiace, hilux,rav4,klugers and i cant help think that it has something to do with the coolant.

also im getting rid of the old header tank, what pressure rad cap should they run? as ill need a new one.

Naa .... never driven the track, as I'm unsure if your allowed to go 4x4 in the area.
Shire rules + ranger = $ fine that are worthy of the cost for a new set of tyres

+ I don't do mud .... Stinky sticky stuff that take days to clean off underneath, Happy to watch others tho


I've seen a yellow RRC like yours in Kwinana tho ..... PM me if you want to see a close up of the fan setup

ahh yea didnt even think about the rangers, theres a bunch of tracks through there so its obv used alot.
i had the old beast in kwinana not last tuesday but the tuesday befour, apart from that its not been out there for over 2 years now.
