G`day ,
yes you will be able to do it but you may need some extra bits to mount the auto and i`m pressuming your 85 is BA model being 1984/5 and not EFI .
It will depend on how the 4.4 is adapted to the auto , being the auto is in an 82 it will be either a BW or C4 as the factory TF727 wasn`t till 83 model .
The 4.4 and the 3.5 have different crankshaft end spacings for the bolts that hold the flexplate or flywheel so it will depend on what the adapter looks like and what the spacings on the flex plate are .
All the bits from the or with the 85 engine will bolt into the 82 you may have to make a little change to the exhaust because the 4.4 is a bit taller .
You may need to remove the bush in the 85 crankshaft end where the manual fits but will depend on how the auto is fitted .
If the auto is a TF 727 you will need the factory crank adapter for it to fit the 3.5 or have one made or you may be able to redrill the 4.4 adapter and a flex plate probably .
Peter
