There are three relays under the drivers seat. It is the right one when seated. I assume they're related to the ecu. Does anyone know? I've removed the relay & the car runs fine, presumably as i've reverted to a carby & gas.

Its probably the indicator flasher relay. Had to replace mine shortly after I got my 88. It used to go off all the time at irregular periods. Got one of a wrecker and voila...no more ticking.:D

Yes, the indicators, lights, wipers, fans, a/c all work. You've gotta love the way L/Rover scattered the electrical vitals around the vehicle between models.
Left to right under the front seat.
EFI (black terminal block) and fuel pump relays
(blue terminal block) mounted beneath right hand
front seat.
Condenser fan timer unit (24) mounted beneath
right hand front seat.
Cruise control relay (23)

Have a look at the connectors on the switch on the thermostat housing. Maybe one has fallen off and is shorting to earth.
You should be able to hear the fans start up.

I'm running an edelbrock manifold & thermo housing so i've got the wires cable tied out of the way. No apparent short there. The thermo's activate when the A/C is on.Quote:

I think the timer leaves the fans on if the switch is closed ( ie the engine hot over 105C ) when shut down for a certain time then switches them off.

Looking at my Haymes "workshop" manual, of which nothing quite matches what I have, I think it is the fuel pump relay. Anyway, i've removed all three with nil effect to the car.
On another point, the ecu is labelled as a Lucas 4CU control unit. Is this the standard unit for 1988?
