I may have mentioned this before: get your hands on the correct LR workshop manual.
The 4CU EFI isn't that hard to master, but it is old tech and it has a couple of items that could, if mixed up, screw up fuel pump power.
In regard to to testing the fuel pump contacts within the flapper, it is one person - ignition to on and then move flapper a bit - should hear pump.

Push a screwdriver or something into the flapper to hold it open turn on ign ,go to the back listn for the pump buzzing in the tank see if it stops as it shouldnt.
You could have the wires going into the fuel tank for the pump burnt causing intermittent connections on top of the tank mine did this along time ago.
what about the gas changeover switch contacts dirty? check voltage or switch resistance with a multimeter
