Ok, so checked another one off the list - ignition. Bought a new coil and a new ignition amp today - wanted a Bosch BIM024 - but they are like hens teeth at the moment. Went to several wreckers over the last couple of days and called many more - there’s plenty of vehicles at the wreckers that would have had them, but all already taken. Tried to find a new one - everyone’s got the Bosch ones on back order at the moment and haven’t seen any for months. I did manage to find a Taiwanese replacement which I bought and I’ll keep hunting down a Bosch one.

Installed them tonight and have a much fatter blue spark so worth doing - when I went to start it, it did start more easily than before, but nowhere near well and hesitates when revved but at least it’s now running well enough to go through everything and check base settings, etc.

Thats for another day, will report back when I get to it and see if I can finally get it running properly again.

How long has it been sitting? If it feels to be leaning out, it could be worth pulling the fuel rail to see if the injectors are stuck or blocked up. Old fuel does weird stuff. I've got a couple of cars here that I had to pretty much renew everything from the tank forward on due to the fuel going to crap in the tank.

Thanks - could be worth checking I think - it’s been sitting a while and the fuel won’t be great no. I have a spare set of injectors somewhere - might flush the system, put some new fuel in it and chuck in the other set of injectors - won’t be this weekend though, see if I can get it done during the week. 👍

Should post a quick update. Non starting issue was the fuel line in the tank which has been replaced and it starts first hit on the key now. The ongoing high temp issue was that chunk of stuff I found in the radiator and along with a new water pump (the old one was leaking) - it is now sorted.

Apart from that nothing to add other than it is for sale - 1985 RRC - Victoria

Quick question for those in the know living in NSW. If someone in NSW bough the vehicle, what would be required to register it up there? It's had a D1 engine and trans put in it and Vicroads were notified and the current info Vicroads have matches the vehicle so assuming no dramas but just checking as I've been asked the question.

    TIA - Gav

All it requires is a RWC - and it's the buyers responsibility to get that done in NSW, as the car was purchased interstate.

Same rules in QLD - matters not if there is a current RWC in the state the vehicle is currently registered.

EVEN when you OWN the vehicle and you're moving interstate and transfer rego over to new state.

New state = New RWC in that state.

It would be wise to ensure that any documentation you have - including the last rego renewal papers, are provided with the vehicle.

The issue with the engine is not a problem, so long as it is correct on the rego papers.

Your Bill of Sale to the new owner in writing, signed and dated. Amount must be disclosed (stamp duty applies)

Also, make sure you fill out the disposal of motor vehicle form - whether it is signed by the purchaser or not - so long as you notify vicroads that the vehicle has been disposed of, all is good.

Most times, it is simply easier for the purchaser to get a UVP to move the vehicle.

So long as you provide a bill of sale, which has the vehicles last current registration (plate info) and the VIN (and engine if you like) You have no problems getting it re-registered in another state, if the vehicle is roadworthy.

Remember - interstate purchase - buyers responsibility to get a RWC.

In NSW, that means the vehicle needs a full RWC if the vehicle is not currently registered. If the vehicle has current rego, then it's just a blue slip and brake test, verify matching numbers and off they go.

    not your problem. Buyers responsibility.

Vic Roads also recommend that if selling to an interstate buyer that you cancel the vehicles registration and sell as an unregistered vehicle. Make sure you remove the number plates.

The interstate buyer won’t be able to register in their name in Victoria, hence easiest option is to sell unregistered.

In NSW the level of emissions allowed is determined by either the year of the vehicle or the year of the engine, whichever is the latter.
So if your 86 has a later model engine, the emissions for the engine will be required to be met. For example, if it was a 2020 engine, the exhaust, catalytic converters, ECU etc would all have to be from the 2020 engine/vehicle.
If was an engine prior to 86, it would have to meet the 86 emissions.
