    engine misfire/down on power

    Hi everyone,
    this morning took the car for a drive,
    missing alot and no power (top 50% of throttle) backfiring, had a fairly empty tanks. so Filled her up, ran better but still missed got most of the power back.

    its had a miss on and off for awhile, and usually when I have time/good weather to diagnose its running fine.

    as its a flapper ecu, could the car be telling me its on its way out or not.

    I have the hotwire set up minus the wiring and ecu, so I'm on the hunt

    How long has it been since you replaced the fuel filter?

    What is it like under the distributor cap?
    Moistu=re and cracks play havoc.

    Air Filter Popping

    Hi Brendon,

    This sound's similar to my prob, in a way I hope.

    Under accelleration, 2 - 4,000 RPM my 3.9lt 1992 Rangie coughs and spits air out the airfilter.

    I am quite confused but doubt it's the mass airflow meter, could be wrong of course.

    Has anyone had this issue and were able to fix it?

    Low fuel pressure or a faulty MAF could result in lean mixtures, but a faulty MAF generally results in very poor idle. Weak ignition will also cause similar problems, poorly set plugs, ignition advance seized or broken, weak coil, dud leads, weak ignition amplifier etc.

    Low fuel pressure can be tested for, fuel pumps can be replaced by VN-on Commodore aftermarket Bosch pumps, ignition amps can be upgraded, coils, leads, timing advance are all things to look at.

    Just to add......hairline crack in Distributor Cap, will cause "missing under load", and irregular running.....

    can't remember what I did for this time (think might have been fuel filter),
    but had it playing up again recently, with all the rain in Rocky it was just a simple case of moisture in the dizzy.
