Oil leak in my new 1989 RR in Dubbo.
G'day
I saved up and bought a nice 1989 Range Rover and have been very happy with it. It is a pleasure to drive.
Over the last couple of days it has started leaking oil from the rear seal. I put some stop leak in it which only worked for a day. Yesterday the oil started leaking very badly and I was leaving a cloud of smoke behind me.
I can fix a lot of minor problems but pulling a motor or gearbox out is beyond my limited toolkit. I went to several mechanics around town but nobody wanted to do it.
Does anybody know of a mechanic in the Central West of NSW who would replace the rear seal?
Regards

I had an 83 Rangie that I had a clutch and rear main seal done at the landrover Stealers in Dubbo about 6 years ago and he was an absolute rip off. Nearly $2.5K and I supplied the parts. Worth more than the car was!

G'day
I was quoted $2k today but he didn't want to do it anyway.
I called a friend and he suggested a stuck PVC valve.
I removed the oil filler cap and tied a rag over the hole. No more leaks!

Hi, sounds like you have pressure in the crank case, remove, clean or replacce the flame trap on the rocker cover and poke a small piece of wire down the breither on the other rocker cover also.
Cheers Will.
