I hired a few and got 30 mpg (l/100km is meaningless to me) consistently. So, needing a cheap beater, I bought one at auction that had 280,000 k's on it and it did the same. Everyone I know who had one praises the fuel economy.
I had an early '80's RR for a while and it used fuel like it owned an oil well, never better than 15 mpg, usually around 12-13 if the a/c was in use. I shudder to think what it would have used towing two tons.
My 406 coupé is very cheap on the petrol use but I just come from the mechanic and it will cost me $7000.00 supply and fit an overhauled auto gearbox :(
I guess that my fuel savings gone trough the drain.
I am better off than the poor bugger with an Audi which just come out of warranty, the gearbox cost $28000
You can buy several old RR for that money plus a few litres of fuel :D
Me too, although I have about 5 of them  Nice to go and cherry pick the bits you need for your going Rangie (I also sell parts as a sideline).
That's why I bought my 85 Rangie, no EFI, no electric windows, easy to work on etc.. and it was cheap (that's the best part). Still a work in progress but getting close to rego.
Discos are okay, still not the same as some have commented.

Will never forget it. Totally out gunned a Toyota supra. He just disappear in the back window as I accepted up to 140mph the handling was also unreal
I walked into the land rover garage who used to sponser me , that asked if I could drive it around for about an hour as it needed a clean out ( Italian service as we called it ) and the battery charging. That hour went quick.
