effect of worn/ missing body mountings?

    Hi,

Anyone know what the effects of missing/ worn body mountings would be on an old classic?

    Cheers!

At a stab i'd say the lack of a body

Or more seriously probably creaking, there aren't that many, just have a look

EDIT: After re-reading i realized you're asking about the affect that missing body mountings will have on the classic?!? Basically it reduces safety, and eventually i'd expect metal fatigue to result in cracking as the body 'flops' around. FIX IT!!! haha

    Cheers

The most likely to fail is the chassis bracket for the rear picture frame panel (on the outside of the chassis rails right at the back). More prone to fail if there is a body lift. Repair and reinforce it.

The rest are more stable but if the rubber mount has perished and cracked you will find that there are a lot more noise and bumping noises in the body. Replace them. The hardest ones to get at are the ones below the firewall and at the front either side of the radiator.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

This is yet another job I have to do. Could anyone describe how to do it, or is it just what it looks like - undo and remove bolt, take old mount out, jam new one in, replace bolt?
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

    Plus jack up body.
Have a good look at the base of the "A" (windscreen) pillars on a two door , and halfway up the "B" (front door slam) pillar on a four door.

They will crack there before anywhere else.
