    Hi all,

Looking to replace existing (faulty) Prestolite alternator and wondering what I should be looking for. I've been advised to look for an Italian subsitute ??

    many thanks in advance

Yep go the Bosch. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can put the 'W' terminal in it to run the tacho - it's not hard to do. Check out this site - it has a good 'how to' for this - How to add a "W" terminal to your alternator

    Cheers - Gav

    Many thanks for the replies

Have had a look & read the links and have also found AAE Wholesalers with a list of Bosch alternators. Just quickly, can anyone point me to the Bosch replacement ref?

    many thanks again

From what I can see, a ARB1077 or ARB 1078 should be good, or an ARB1165 , but the pulley in all cases would need to be Vbelt. I am assuming the distance between the vpulley is similar in all but I do not really know, so you should measure the distances from your current alternator.

    Mine was from a Magna
You will probably not be able to get a pulley as small as the OE Lucas Magneti Marelli.
I suggest you buy from an auto electrician as they can fit a pulley from their pulley box and fit the W wire for you.
