    Does the master and booster look like this?



    That's an '83 model, and it seems that after about '86-ish they changed.

    Didn't get a chance to look at it last weekend due to the wifes car having a few unexpected issues to sort out. Thanks for the advice so far guys.

    Still unclear whether you are talking about a fluid leak or not- do you mean you can see fluid at the back of the booster inside the firewall? If so, as Philip said, it's the master cylinder and not the booster that is at fault.
    My memory of brake booster internals is very rusty, can't remember if fluid can track along the pushrod from the master cylinder rear seal all the way to the back of the booster, but this is more likely than your booster being half full of brake fluid- I'm sure you would notice the loss of about 3 litres of brake fluid.

    My 1984 phase 11 looks like the one in Davos pic.

    My brother in laws 88 is a black steel master cylinder and the booster is different as well. It has the better brakes of the two.
