    Immobiliser

    Hi all, I just picked up a 95 limited edition vogue I think it is as a spare parts car and the battery was completely dead. Put another battery in to start it (apparently it's a runner) but the immobiliser won't disable. Connect the battery and the alarm just goes off. No remote, just a key. No transponder on the key either, it's just a metal key. Is there a trick to these? I spoke to the seller and he reckons it did it to him once but he just left it for 20 minutes and it started. It's not a big issue but I'd like to have it running to be able to move it.

    Just found a service manual online, apparently there are two stages of the alarm, perimetric and volumetric. The volumetric is activated by the remote, the perimetric is the key. The key wouldn't turn the door lock the first time I tried, but I didn't try too hard. The key in the door is the way to go I think.

    What is the blanking plug in the link? Is it electronic or can I wire my own?

    The key fob locks the car as sets both alarm systems, internal and perimeter. - You can only unlock with the remote, using the key will not shut it down...


    Using the key to lock the car only sets the perimeter alarm, and the vehicle can be unlocked by either the remote or key.

    Sorry, but can't advise what to do if the (lost) remote was used to lock it...

    For Mr NAAF - blanking plug only works if you've got the 17VT alarm. ID the alarm first. If you have it, try getting a 2nd hand fob for it. In the service manual it should tell you how to program it yourself. Further, the service manual should show you how to disable the alarm without the plug. It should be pins 2 and 5 from memory.

    Had a bit of a win last night. Pulled the alarm fuse and tried starting the car, still wouldn't turn over, but it clicked. Turned the key to on, touched the fuse to the fuse holder for an instant and the horn made a short beep, then the car started and ran fine.

    The key doesn't turn the locks on the doors so it may have had an ignition barrel change at some point.

    Only got the thing for the running gear and some spare panels anyway, won't be using any of the electrics.

    I assume it's a pretty much straight forward plug and play swap with the engine into my '89 3.5L EFI classic?

    Oh, it's actually a 94, not a 95. There isn't any info in the service manual I have about the alarm except how it works and how to test it.

    The build date on the ID plate is not always the "model" year. Mine is a '95 model, but built July '94.

    Don't ask how I found out, but it relates to a useless set of workshop manuals that don't apply to my Black Hole...

    I am going by the compliance date, it's 1/94 Aus compliance. Haven't looked at the build date. I looked at the 95 service manual and there are differences in a few things so I reckon it's not a 95 at all. Particularly the engine belts, the 95 has one serpentine belt, mine has ribbed belts that are similar to my 89 model V belt set up in that the power steering pump runs the alternator.

    I tried downloading RAVE but I think the filter at work corrupts the file as the zip file was corrupted and couldn't be opened.
