Likely as not the pulley has just cracked apart from an overtightened belt. A seized pump won't break the pulley, it would just smoke up the belt.

It actually takes less time to undo the three bolts and look than it takes to upload a pic on the intertoobs. Go forth with a spanner and undo the pulley ASAP.

As bee utey suggested, the split pulley has.........well..........split. I probably overtightened the alternator belt when I fitted the Bosch unit.

The pump appears to be ok. I have very little freeplay in it. It tuns smoothly and freely anti-clockwise but there is interference when I turn it clockwise? The interference feels similar to when I was turning my old dizzy and the reluctor was catching on the pickup?

Could anyone let me know if the pump should turn clockwise or anti-clockwise whith the engine running, and if the interference when turning clockwise is normal?

    Cheers

    Clockwise and Yes.
The inside of the pump has an eccentric track with vanes that move in and out of the centre boss. The resistance is the vanes moving across the eccentric track while going in and out of slots in the centre. It should be pretty smooth as if the outer track is corrugated , the pump will be quite noisy. So you will hear the noise before anything else, other than a seal of course.

Thanks Dave but that looks like it is secured by a centre bolt and not the 3 securing bolts as with mine? The securing bolt looks to be deeply recessed as well. I will send you a PM.

they may be interchangeable at the higher assembly level.

I can pull the whole pump instead of just the pully if you want
