How does the 93 set the chop in/out temperature for the aircon?
My 85 has a dash mounted thermostat (awesome) where you can set the AC temp and it'll chop in/out all day long to keep that temp.
My 93 just has a switch. Is it similar to everything else that runs a 2C switch (which becomes ~10C at the vents) on the evaporator as a best balance betweeen cooling and not icing up?
After being spoilt for years with the rangies air-con I hacked into the thermistor circuit on my work car air-con and installed a 4 position rotary switch.
Position left is stock, ~10C at the vents, next notch ~7C vents, 3rd notch, ~4C vents, far notch sub zero.
Get into the car in the heat, crank it to sub zero and click it back when it becomes unbearable.:cool:
Best modification ever.
92 has a fixed thermostat setting and mine is OK with AFAIR 6C at the vents.
I just checked my underbonnet before going to Kosi and found the receiver dryer had slipped in its mount and was resting on the steering column. I wondered why I was getting a vibe on RH turns!LOL.
Anyway, I rerouted the hoses as far as possible from the exhaust and then wound aluminium tape from Aldi around all the hoses. This eems to be a good move as it cycles well and was quite cold on a hot day.
So far so good.
Although I now have the compressor or TX "gurgle" back on really hot days for about 2 seconds as it cycles on.

Set me straight here, I have noticed in my 93 that since I had the aircon overhauled I have no control of the temperature, it is just full cold all the time. Sliding the temp bar on the heater controls from full cold right over the full hot I still get full cold at the vents.

I should say that I also had no control of the aircon before I had it overhauled either!!!:p

After a few minutes of driving , the majority of the warm air will be
expelled. Close the window and adjust the blower speed(slider D) as required.
When the air in the vehicle has cooled sufficiently, move the temperature
control(sliderB) progressively to the right until a comfortable temperature is
obtained.
BTW, I just mean by fixed thermostat that there is NOT a rheostat for adjusting cut in cut out temps for the aircon.

I tried warming the air by moving the heater slide day before yesterday and it does mix somehow, as the air became warmer.
Not warm to feel just more like ambient.
That may be because my air is just so good now that i rarely have to go above fan speed 1 on a 30plus day.

On a slight tangent, but can anyone recommend an AC place in Melbourne - preferably north or west that is happy to redo my AC now I have stuck in the 3.9 Disco engine? I need some hoses made or modifying, then the system recharging. I have called a couple of local places, but they don't really want to do it, and I'm not taking it somewhere that doesn't want to do it...

Well that accounts for the difference in function.
The factory AC system on my 85 had different vents to the heater, so it wasn't possible to mix warm air in to heat up the cold. So it needed a thermostat for control.
If you can mix in the later heaters air-con then the only potential problem is not being cold enough.
Being a Sparky with a bit of aircon background knowledge, I bought myself 9kg of Hychill with the dye in it, to try out.
I'd never used a hydrocarbon refrigerant before, so it was an experiment to see how the older AC systems worked with it.
(call me a skeptic)
So far, it works pretty awesome - at least on par with the old R12..... maybe slightly better.
Can't wait to fix up the aircon in my 85 Rangie now.
There's something cool I reckon, (no pun intended) about having a nearly 30yr old Rangie........ with working AC.
Do you need a licence for Hychill? Someone else on here was saying how good it was as well.
