James do you want some? You can have all mine, will see what ones I have. Stupid eas![]()
At the moment I've got a dodgy front LH height sensor, worn out in one spot..as they do.
New Classic sensors are like hens canines... and s/h ones are a King's Ransom with the proviso that they're most likely going to fail in the same way as mine...
Anyway, I've just noticed that my LH rear is an odD style, and if I did'nt know better I'd say it was a P38 one. It's differant from the other 3, yet it is obviously working properly...
My understanding is that the Classic ones are wirewound pots, but the P38 is a Hall-Effect unit.
Does anyone know for sure ?
Here's my pics...and the green one is a P38 / 1997 lifted from evilbay

Never wire-wound.
Classics and P38 are ceramic resistor type. there is a difference in resistance range, with the Classic being wider resistance range than the P38. There are also 2 types on P38!
If it's been set with diagnostics to suit the resist.range of the P38 one then it "should" work ok; That wheel though may be a bit different in height to the others, at other than standard height; eg äccess" or "high".
They can be recoed, by pulling the back off; thorough cleaning ( pot to be reassembled DRY), new bearing/seal, and switch the arm to utilise the other side of the resistor( it's been unused up till now!)
By "Diagnostics" do you mean from factory ? - Or Testbook? - Or perhaps with the 'EAS Unlock Suite' ? trust LR to keep chopping and changing mid-model for the sake of making our lives ... interesting.
Which means all things considered, I'm no worse off by attacking it with a can-opener or other suitable instruments. - The LH front has now gone into constant fault mode, cannot get it to 'hold' a EAS Kicker re-set. Car is now running on its Self-Rescue system..
I feel a re-build project on the way...![]()
Quag, it's a very simple procedure to reco the sensor as Don has mentioned. Just give it a crack. It took less then an hour when I attempted the repair from scratch when I had the RRC. And the repair as outlined was completely successful.
You will have to reset the calibration on that sensor, though.
