Why run diesel oil? The other four diesels here run on it and price is good because I buy 20L buckets. I was considering running a change of the cheapest oil I can find to flush it through. But the cheapest oil I can find is 20w50 and within $1/litre of the diesel oil.Quote:

Just crawled under Sarah, yes, Ryco Z9 is what's there. Plenty of clearance to install etc.
RYCO list the Z9 as for a 3.5V8 and the Z89 for 3.9 and up.
I don't see the point for paying more for a smaller (?) filter..
Filled up today. 209.5km and almost 36 litres. This is all short running and includes some light and moderate towing.
Took it up to play in the snow. The snow tyres make it as grippy as diving on sand. Will check photos later.

The shorter filter is to compensate for the oil cooler sandwich on a 3.9 which the 3.5 doesn't have.
Some on here have smashed filters so it is a possibility, though some have gone for years with Z9s. Is it a gamble you are willing to take?

Makes perfect sense with the filter. The Z9 is still listed in many catalogues, fitment is obviously identical but clearance could be an issue for some.
Fuel consumption was 36.56L for 209.5km.
17.45 l/100km.
5.7km/l.
Short running, hill work and towing with light to moderate loads (empty trailer and then about 1 ton of digger buckets).

Running a set of Japanese snow-tires (likely came into the country on an imported Hilux Surf) it just drove all the way up from the bottom through the mud and slush and through some minor snow banks. It only spun up twice when I was testing the traction and had a minor side-slip while turning around after that photo.
BFG A/T's in those situations are borderline.

Still no decent open road driving. I wanted to take it skiing on the weekend, but a landcruiser owner insisted we take his vehicle.
It appears I've fixed my oil leak.
When I did the oil change there was nothing to seal the drain plug. No o-ring. No alloy or fibre washer. Nothing.
Easy fix.:)
