Stick with the Classic.

My place of abode for the last 30 odd years has a 3klm 4wd access road, for the first 10 I had a variety of makes, togo's nissan suzukis etc, late 80's I acquired a 79 2door, an eye opening experience.

Reliability has been no more of a problem than any of the others, except maybe small electrical glitches, THE PRINCE of DARKNESS.

General maintenance is simple, don't think I'll doing it when I'm 80 though, but I'll be driving one if I'm still around, parts are easy to get and well priced, unlike my 82 hilux ute.

Keep her and Enjoy her.

Like others have already said, keep the Classic - the car you enjoy the most is worth any potential pain from maintenance etc IMHO.

I bet the Mazda feels sterile to drive compared to the Classic - can't enjoy that now, can we?

Mate I would do what ever puts the smile on your face, and by the sound of the original post we all know what that it :) as the saying goes I'm here for a good time not a long one :)

My old Rangie was basically the same as yours, and it was the most reliable Rangie i've ever known.


If you do get stuck for an oil change or maintanance, I'll come down and do it for you.

Send that hard to get into and out of Mazda into the carsales asap.

Then using a little of that money, have your Range Rover detailed top to bottom by a car care specialist, it will look a million dollars and will make you feel like the millionaire.

If the spring has gone in her or your legs do this, use a stool as a step and a length of string to pull it into the car.

:D Thank you hugely for all the following - re (No, I know it ain't sensible).
After a helluva lot of deliberation I've decided to retain the RR and flog the Mazda (good little car though).
Now, sorry to write even more – but what sort of cost is involved in replacing the power steering box and power steering pump – you start to see a couple of my problems – and, who would you recommend in terms of fitting (and of course) cost.

I'm with you (in spirit) as one of my bug-bears of modern cars is... getting DOWN into them... nice enough to drive, then climbing UP out again. Both activities are an unwanted reminder of my impending infirmity...

At least my Rangie is the Right Height, and when I get older.... then I'll start using the 'Access Height' setting on the air suspension. - Maybe the only advantage of it, but the WOW factor is ......

What other car squats down to board you...then to Roll-Lux altitude at the press of a button ?

And SWMBO likes it NOT.... Priceless !!! :p:p:p
