    Electric Seat Question.

I have a question about the operation of my electric seats in my 93 classic. Because right now these are making no sense at all.

All previous times I have tried to adjust the drivers seat by the electric switches. It has worked as it should.
But today my electric seat switches do not move the drivers seat. Instead they are adjusting the electric mirrors.

How the hell is this possible?

From what I recall of my 94 classic, the seats memory function allowed the setting for each person to have the seat and the mirrors set to their personal preference , as a tall drivers position will be different to a short driver and therefore mirror set up is different.

Mine used to get sticky on the seat rails, not move , and mirrors would still work. I had to hold the seat buttons to move back or forward a little longer and more forceful ( not too hard though ) to get the seats moving again.

Only thing i can think of from my experience , but thats probably the answer to your mirror question.

Excellent, that explains the tie-in between seats and mirrors. Now I just need to make the mirror switch move the mirrors and the seat switches move the seats.

I think I've got bad contacts in the seat switches. Can I get into these without taking the seats out?

    Hi Dougal,

Mine did this. Does your have the memory function?

What normally causes it is the battery for the memory in the circuit board leaks, then that damages the circuit causing this issue.

not uncommon unfortunately. I had mine repaired. (in the Uk a few years back)

    cheers
    Pete

From another forum, I understand the seat switches (mounted on the side of the seat where fat folk can sit on them...) are prone to intermittant failure... Bit of a mystery why as they're BOSCH and same mechanism is used in some Mercedes Benz models. - Mounted on the doors.

It is possible to clean and re-assemble them, if you have enough hands and fingers...

Just tried mine... the mirrors remain motionles if the seat is moved manually, but they will return to where they were when you use either of the memory buttons. If they have'nt been re-adjusted (but the seat has) they'll just give a wiggle and stay put.

The lean back on my seat works, but sometimes won't come forward. - I use the pre--set memory.

Edit: Psimpson7 - That would explain it perfectly... suspected the switches were 'bleeding' cross-signals. Not the best location for.... "prosperously built" people...

Is this battery in with the switch box or in a Black Box hidden elsewhere ?

Thanks guys. I do have memory adjustment.

So where do I find this circuit board? I'm very happy to circumvent the memory function and go back to manual adjustment.

    Ah...LSE design flaws.

The corrosive memory battery hasn't struck me yet.

What a delayed action ecu bomb.

    Must take action.

The seat switches are indeed vastly complex beasts.

I rewired one with rockers from Jaycar for $25.

Probably the easiest way to go. Mine is stuffed as well. Mirrors move when i toogle it. I got my seat in the right position by putting direct power from the battery to the plug.. Too bad if someone else drives my rangie

Might have to give the ecu to an electric guru and see if they can fix the damaged parts.
