I agree with you 100% ......and like you I'm also doing up my RRC.
In my case I believe there arn't that many good examples of stock 2 Door classic around these days and good 4 door examples are going the same way as well.

Given you can still source a lot of s/hand accessories cheaply and most new parts are reasonable priced compared to other 4WD (who don't have the same capabilities) still makes them an attractive vehicle to own.

Someone on this forum referred to all of us owners of older Land rovers as being enthusiasts and I think that about sums us up beautifully.

Like Phillip, a Disco TD5 for me would be the next logical choice and while they are more complicated they pale into insignificance against a D3 or D4 or later model Range Rovers.

My Dad used to say anyone can buy any marque, but they have to be able to afford to maintain it and I'm not sure if I would venture down the road in owning a second hand D3 or D4 or later model RR when they are 7 -10 years old and in my price bracket :(

I have both.
I have been a rangie man since 1983 ands still have my 89 classic my 3rd Rangie which I just love to drive.
I now also have a 2003 TD5 manual as well.
I still prefer the V8 burble and seating position and supple ride of the Rangie .
The TD5 is good and smooth but is a little stiffer in the suspension dept.
It is stock with 125k on the clock now.
My Rangie is about 200 kilometers from 400000k.
I could not part with the rangie after buying the disco , so I have kept both and enjoy them each for their own charactors. The rangie will go with me to my Grave.
Phillip...why cant you keep both?:):)

My biggest concern is whether I would be able to keep a 30-year-old TD5 going, whereas my Rangie will be 30 this year and there's nothing really that's insurmountable. Though the wiring and door seals and rust and seats and repainting are a just a little off-putting.

It's not that bad if you go into the ownership understanding the potential issues and not thinking you are buying a new car. My L322 turns 10 this year and yes, I've had an issue with it that made my wallet ache, but I was expecting it at some stage.

Apart from that, only maintenance items, and I look after it well and keep an eye on things.

Anyway, what fun would it be owning a vehicle that doesn't need all your love and attention, and like a teenager, most of your money...:D

Well, I find myself in much the same situation, bit the bullet and bought a puma 130 a couple of months ago after much soul searching. Very, Very different vehicle to the Rangies that I have been driving for the past 20 years. After much procrastination, I advertised my soft dash Rangie on here and on eBay yesterday and it has already reached the reserve so will belong to someone else in less than a week. End of an era for me.

Ah well I am back to my jilted love because the D2 has now failed to proceed twice.
Once on the way home from buying, which was only a corroded battery terminal which I had to cut off.
Second time going down to the RR club meeting the alternator light intermittently came on, so I left for home before themeeting but after the BBQ. Thanks Cremorne Prestige.
The light came on intermittently on the way home but I made with the light on the last 2Kms. But I started it to move it this morning and no light. Aggggh.
So now have to pull out the alternatorto have a look see.
Not a good start to a new love.
