As always it looks a lot tidier in the piccies than it is in real life.... But I reckon it'll tidy up really nicely with a bit of effort.

It's a bloody good Rangie, I was painful to sell it but I had it sitting behind the shed for 8 months and done a bit here and there but always seem to get sidetracked with wrecks, work, etc.. and nothing ever got done to it.
Glad it's gone to a good home, it deserved to be looked after not trashed by rough bastards like me :mad:

actually I thought all the work done on it has been to a really good standard :). Give me time and it'll tidy up well. I might even have to break out the spray guns eventually.......... If I ever get around to finishing my spray booth... gee's there's a thought ... I hope if fits in there under the booths roof :unsure:

Well I'm learning the hard way as always. I tightened down the top adjustment nut on top of the steering box until it started to feel like it was tightening up, then backed it off half a turn.................. Oh yeah .......... She sure is god damn tight now :eek: The steering no longer returns to center. I'll have to chase up an exploded parts diagram and see what tightening the adjuster on the pump does. In the mean time I guess I just back it off half a turn at a time until we find a happy medium :confused:
There is still slack/wander in the front end though. What bushes should I be looking at ?? Possibly I should just buy in a full bush kit (if such a thing is available) and replace them all?

Tightening the adjuster is supposed to compensate for wear in the balls and just tightens the whole thing up. If it doesn't return to centre then you've done it up too tight thats all. They are vague at the best of times anyway!
Wandering probably due to worn ball joints and radius arm bushes. Alternatively/additionally the swivel pins/bearings could be worn. Try shimming it up or just replace the whole lot- not that hard. When disconnected from the linkages they shouldn't be able to flop about left to right (need preload) Check wheel bearings also.
Thanks, I'll take a look. There's no desperate hurry for any of this. The motors idle also increases to about 1400rpm when warm and it always seems to be running lean just off idle. I imagine it has an air leak around the intake that leaks more when warm :confused: Given it runs so nicely I don't want to mess with the carbies.... I could pull them off and clean if required though!
I might try spraying some starting fluid around the inlet area when it's hot at some point and see if the way it runs changes (guiding me to any intake leaks).

I spent quite a bit of time looking for the cause of the high idle... To me it screamed vacuum leak somewhere. It turned out to be one of the carbies dashpots were dry. I added some oil and I think that's fixed it (I'll have to go for a good run and check).
This week my workplace is shifting out to the technology center at ballarat.... As the crow flows through the bush from my place that's only a couple of k's.

On google maps the path to follow is clear as day. I thought I could ride a moutain bike through the bush to work and back for fun. The old Citroen is always happy to drive down a bit of gravel too.....
All I can say is OMFG ... I tried to get through today. Luckily I jumped into the range rover. I never understood the staggering capabilities of this thing. I immediately got completely lost. there's bloody countless tracks crossing each other .... damn, how the hell could anyone find there way around the bushland. Damn Rangie is like a bloody mountain goat ... unbelievable what it drives over. Finally I found my way through (no I couldn't retrace my tracks to get back... completely lost :confused: ). This time I decided to follow a different track that runs under high voltage lines ...... My bloody jaw just about hit the floor .... I leaned forward and looked upward ..... Surely no wheeled vehicle could climb that cliff face without flipping end for end .... :eek: Yes it appears to have tire tracks on it :eek: ............................. Only a complete total f@#ckwit would try and drive up that .... so I stuck it in low range and grabbed 2nd gear .... about a quarter of the way up I realised it was full of MASSIVE ditches/ridges :eek: OMFG ........ I grabbed 1st low and flipped the center diff lock on ......................Barely a wheel slipped ... straight up we went ... The axles must pivot from the middle ..... the axle articulation is simply phenomenal to drive through those ditches climbing like that.
Ask me if I'm dumbfounded and impressed with what a tired old V8 Range Rover car do :eek:
