    What's this in a 3.9 engine bay ('92 MY)?

    Hi!

Was having a look at a '92 Vogue SE that's come up for sale, I noticed something in the engine bay that I haven't seen before. Seller had no idea what it is. In the photo below (might have to click on the link), just above the coolant tank is something that looks like a rubber bag. Any idea what that is?

    Cheers!

I can't help you with the mystery item, but I'd take a punt and say that the car has been re-sprayed at some point. The wiring loom has red overspray on it. Perhaps it's been in a prang?

To me it looks like an accumulator on top of the motor looking thing. Where does the large pipe go to?

It could be an oil pressure accumulator to prime the engine with oil when the ignition is turned on. Not stock.

The ABS accumulator in those is usually on the LH guard AFAIR , but maybe someone switched it to put something else there?

    Air trailer brakes?

I think we are talking about different things. The round black thing with the yellow label is the accumulator on top of the ABS brake pump. The OP is referring to the item between the coolant reservoir and the ABS pump - the bagged item with a harness going into the cabin via the RH side of the decker panel just below the broken bonnet light switch.

What boring answers.... I'd rather hoped it was the 'Beam Me Up Scotty' module for when it breaks down.

Nothing as interesting as that... On my '95 model (July 1994 build) there is a fuse-box right where the rubber bag is...

    - Maybe a waterproof bag to keep the fuse-box dry ??? Or something electrical...

My accumulator is hidden under 'stuff' at the back, circled in red and a red arrow showing the pipe that joins it to the pump.
Never seen one mounted on TOP.

The ABS pump and accumulator looks like it came from a P38A.
