Swivel Pin Dampers, when and why are these fitted?

Hi all, just been going through microcat to get some part numbers for some parts I need for a full from axle rebuild and I came across part number FTC1620 swivel pin dampers, just wondering what these are ment to fix or control. My early 89 doesn't have them but am wondering if they would be of any benefit to fit them, if I knew what they do.
    Cheers,
    Valguard

they are there to remove harmonic vibrations that may occur. of course as soon as you fit larger tyres or different shocks etc etc then the 'system' is no longer operating as designed so any harmonic vibration damping calculations by landrover engineers go straight out the window....

Cheers, thanks for that. No need for them in the old girl, had minor mods when I got her and getting more now. Do you know if they were standard, just never saw them mentioned in my manual or Rave.

FTC1620 is the R/H damper and FTC1621 is the L/H damper.
As Justin mentioned, they are a piece of metal, that is bolted to the lower swivel pin mount, used to dampen the the frequency of any harmonic vibrations. All the ones that I have seen have been fitted to classic Rangies only.Haven't seen one on anything else. Not that I really look for these sort of things
Maybe it is just that Rangie drivers were a bit more discerning,or maybe they just whinged a lot more

Hmmm, maybe I should've had some Finite analysis done when I fitted the 4BD1t to the Rangie, as these things may have made it as quiet and as smooth as my LS430....

That vehicle had only end of bitumen driveway warranty...., after all the welding, cutting, lifting and complete engine and drivetrain changes it was a bit of a grandads axe...still got me everywhere reliably, lots of big trips to the mainland etc towing and offroading. I miss it still sometimes...RIP Isuzu turbo Sherwood
