    Gear selector lever Adjustment

    I was looking at my auto gear selector lever tonight and worked out that why I cannot select 1st gear.

    I cannot select the notch for P. Therefore it thinks R is P, although it wont start in position R so the lever goes half way between P and R to start.

    All the gears are offset by one notch until I get to what would be the first gear notch, it is actually second for me.

    The transmission makes a high pitch squeal when changing from 1st to second. (automaticly and my selector does not work fo me to try manually) I'm guessing this is a slipping clutch or something. There is a good chance it is buggered.

    Question - Is it possible to adjust the selector plate forward or backwards to make the gears match the selector?

    Yes. The cable at the transmission has a threaded end on it that can be adjusted. You need to pull off the bit on the cable that goes through the selector arm on the box, then it can be loosened or tightened a bit to get it in the right spot.

    Have a look underneath the car on the passenger side where the cable meets the box and it should become apparent what I'm talking about.
