Why??

The tooth thing is an ancient hiclone and will be worth well nothing in 100years. Seriously it is a mixture homogeniser that is supposed to give better fuel atomisation at low revs.

The flaps on the butterflies are for emissions and are usually soldered up.

The choke is actually an enrichener and should have a pipe going to the other carby from the LH one.

Those are emission carbs that have a fixed main jet and you need a special tool to raise and lower the needles from the top. ( I have one)

I was wondering what on earth the idea of the spring loaded flap in the butterfly was. It's a huge hole, I couldn't solder that up. You mean solder the butterfly itself closed ?

The disconnected pipes must all be polution crap. I wonder if it had a pollution pump or anything ugly like that. I'll verify what adjustment tool I need as this was is definitely running lean :)

Gees you guys think too much! When tank is empty (or nearly) fill it up again. Drive a twin carby V8? repeat often! WAY too often, nothing you can do about it except suck it up! or buy a Getz :eek:

I'm not trying to improve fuel economy.... I'm trying to get it to run right! Infact, I'll be increasing the fueling if I can :eek: (like it doesn't burn a ****load now :beer: )

Gee's, there's nothing to these carbies, no jets, no fancy enrichment devices/multiple throats, no accelerator pumps. Does anyone know the float level setting and temperature compensator settings for the Solex carbs. There's nothing wrong that I can see. I'll just replace any seals etc... Given the idle is OK, I can't even see the point in pulling the spindal to change the seals. The diaphram is still soft and un-holed from what I can tell.

Which is the choke enrichment take off pipe to run to the other carb? I reckon it'll one of the blocked off hoses. The choke appears to be the same principle as the old single choke Solex PCIB carbs on the 50/60's era europen stuff.

The mixture adjustment on this one is a small slot. You know given it's running really well in hot weather, I reckon I'll have a temperature compensator not working on one of the carbs.

Its the one that runs from the side of the LH carb, from the enrichener, the squarish box .

Yeah thanks, it's the fine plastic hose that joins the two carbies at the front (I assumed that was the fuel return when I pulled the carby off).

You know, everything looks good and unworn to my untrained eyes. I guess I check the other carby and hope to find something wrong there :confused:

Oh yeah, if you guys run out of carby cleaner ....Gee's don't try gasket stripper .... bloody hell, that baked on fule staining just ran off like it was nothing. Gee's that gasket stripper must be cancer in a bottle to work that well :eek: :eek:

I have no idea what that valve in the throttle butterfly could possibly achieve (maybe it opens if there's a backfire through the intake to release the pressure ?). Would you warp brass if I heat it up to solder the valve shut ?

Where did you find the special tool? These carbs appear to need a tool similar to standard flat screwdriver with the edges rounded off. The two I can find any references too are:

I'll have to look again tonight, but I reckon it's the mirror image of the 2nd piccie. ie: you need the tool to be the male not female side.

may help in your search ?

L/Rov pn = S353.... Zenith B20374 allen key type

L/Rov pn MS80... Zenith B25860 slotted type .

Factory start point for the needle is ......... shoulder of needle is flush with the face of the piston .

The valve on the butterfly is called a poppet valve only open under high vacuum also called deceleration valve .

early ones don`t use them , i have a set that have the moving part removed and the covers soldered on .

Does the little tag under the screw on the carb top have a number ?

I have the second type but made by a mechanic mate.
They are a bugger to use as when you press down to turn, the mixture changes so you have to turn remove and so on.
