They are a truck box, but they shouldn't be that bad. Notchy and slow to shift compared to a modern car box, but still quite usable.

My 2 door parts car has an lt95 that I'd like to remove and fit to my 2 door... Problem is though the shifter is sloppy as... Doesn't return to centre when out of gear and when in it's in gear feels like still in neutral. I know it's not ever gonna feel like a car but surely has to be better than that.

What actually returns the stick to centre? I've pulled the stick out and can't find anything that would do the job? The big rubber ring that's disintegrated doesn't do it does it?
The early LT95's are notoriously sloppy in the throw.
The later ones are alot nicer to use.
Hi Mitch, I reckon you have nailed it right there. That big rubber ring. It doesn't return it to neutral but if it is missing it will give you all that slop that makes it feel like it is loose in the socket. The 3 bolts that hold the round plate that hold the shifter lever in position are shouldered and you need that big rubber ring underneath it to provide the right clearance and pressure to hold it all in place. Unfortunately I am away from home atm and can't give you the part number for it but a search under "LT95" here should find it. That should cure most of the slop but as mentioned the earlier boxes with the "long throw" lever usually feel a bit sloppier than the later short throw boxes.

So that is all to return it? No springs or anything? I work at all four by 4 in newcastle so I can probably get one cheap
It doesn't return the lever to neutral but the pressure on the lever base holds it where you put the lever. Pretty sure they are only about $5 but not everyone stocks them - hopefully all 4X4 will otherwise I will post up the number next week when I am back home. In a pinch you can just use a bit of rubber instead but it has to be about the right thickness and won't last for long with exposure to oil etc.

I've got the same problem- about to order the foam washer part number (622387) which will hopefully rectify the problem. i remember my old perentie gearstick had a similar problem which was a loose retaining grub screw(576320) but that gear lever base was a flat-type instead of ball-type - I'm not sure if the ball-end type gearstick has a retaining grub screw like the flat ones or they're just held in position by the top retaining plate?
I'm reviving this thread to ask others how long their replacement washer lasted? I changed mine and it had the desired effect for about 2 months, then the shifter went sloppy again. It's a $16 piece of soft rubber/foam, so I'm not too keen in wasting $ on something that just disintegrates. Am i missing something?
