Overheating issue could be a seized thermostat if its been sitting that long.

Incredible find - the kind of thing you dream about. I have a soft spot for unmolested 2 door Rangies, they are such an elegant design.
A couple are original, but most & it has 4 spares are 198? something. One of the originals has a date stamp 116, which has me beat!
The original & previous owner took the vehicle across the centre from Perth to Alice when he first got it back in 1977, hence the number of spares & roof rack full of jerry cans.
