Yes! I found the same thing :D

I went MS2 over MS1 because of the greater resolution in the fueling maps. And I thought for my application MS3 was overkill.
I'm also running direct control of my coil packs and I believe MS2 does this better than 1. But don't quote me on that ;)
So what research sources were you using to arrive at your MS2 conclusion.
I have been using the MS Sections of the LR4x4 Forum in the UK, the US Megasquirt Forum and contacting various other companies like Trigger wheels and some kit car companies like TVR that use the RV8.
I found that the LR4x4 Forum are very much focussed on Megasquirt V8 and MS1 where the US site was more open to other variants but knew less about the RV8.. The Brits sell complete MS1 kits with everything included whereas you need to get bits individually from the US.
I have been looking at Ebay US once a week for complete EDIS 8 gear but there hasn't been any complete kits for some time - I guess I need to find the main Ford wreckers in the US and approach them directly.
Cheers

Yep I hang around the LR4x4 forum a lot trawling for RV8 info. In fact I've just been getting some great, initial tuning tips from Tunning my RR 3.9 V8 - MS-Megasquirt/Jolt - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum
I found that there was a lot of resistance to anything other than MS1 there (LR4x4 forum) early on but see that quite a few are starting to accept that plenty of blokes (me included) are trialing MS2 instead. None with MS3 on an RV8 as far as I know??? Whilst most of my RV8 specific info for tuning comes from LR4x4, I went with the Americans (Matt Cramer at DIYautotune) for my build information.
The EDIS thing is a case in point, advice from England was that EDIS is essential (more or less) (especially if you want to be a submariner) so I diligently scoured the net for months looking for an EDIS8 unit. That was until I found out from America that you don't actually need it, all it does is control the ignition and you can do that in house with an MS2.
So I installed the internal coil drivers into my megasquirt at a cost of about $12 all up! No need for EDIS. The coil drivers are these little black transistors called a BIP323 and they work a treat.
Thanks for that - I had DIYautotune in my bookmarks and reviewed their site - I might look closer at what they offer.
Where did you get your initial injection and ignition map from for your MS2?

The maps I am running right now are very generic V8 maps that come with the tuning software. They are nothing special and give settings that 'should get most engines started'. So the fact that mine started on a map that is generic was a bonus. I have not had time to do any proper tuning yet. I'll be over to LR4x4 forum during the week to get some more tips.
Well after this discussion I think I will go the MS3 route using 4.6 coil packs with relevant accessories etc.
I need sequential injection and as I am going to put gas back on it needs dual maps for injection and ignition.

I've not looked at the features of MS3 closely as when I bought mine it was only very new. But I believe it handles dual maps IE for dual fuel, better than MS2. For that reason I would have been better off with MS3 too as I have injected LPG. I think I can work it out on MS2, although MS3 would probably be easier however with the time and effort invested already I'll stick with this one.
To reference an earlier post in this thread about our cousin forum in the old country, I had to laugh when, on said forum just now I came across a posting from a Yorkshire man, and I quote:" Unfortunately this forum does suffer from a "there be dragons here" attitude towards MS installations that don't use EDIS and MS1" " end quote!

Can I just say that after having driven the car for a couple of weeks now with the Megasquirt installed and letting the Tunerstudio software tune it whilst I drive, that my 1993 classic now drives better than it ever has!
I guess the thing that impresses me the most is that it will now idle. Rock solid, steady idle with maybe only the slightest fluctuation every now and again. Incredible!!! The original stepper motor is now replaced with a Bosch Pulse Width Modulated idle valve and it works well.
Colour me happy!
