which oil filter 3.5 carby engine

Z9s are fine on 3.5s as long as they don't have a oil cooler sandwich at the base of the filter like a 3.9.

DID YOU KNOW that the gasket for the cooler sandwich is the same as that found on the filter (logical when you think about it) and a good use for an old filter gasket is to renew the sandwich gasket to prevent leaks, as the filter generally only does say 5-10 K while the sandwich gasket has been there since Abdullah put it there on the production line 20 years ago.

Firstly if your front axle ever hit the oil filter there is something extremely wrong with your Rangie! The reason for using a z89a oil filter is to provide clearance to the front crossmember. I always used to use a z9, with aftermarket oil cooler adaptor, and never had a drama. I would never use a power drill to get oil pressure with a dry oil pump, you will damage the oil pump housing. Always pack the oil pump with petroleum jelly before priming with the drill! The price difference between a z9 and z89a should only be a few dollars.

yeah dave , one could be spinning the gears for even minutes, and it would chew up the aluminium housing, I will only now use vasoline jelly. thanks for that point dave

The point with the gears that they should be wet with oil from assembly and generally they take 2-5 seconds to suck up some oil from the sump. I've been doing it for 25 years, I'm not going to stop now.
