Springs, springs, springs...

Gav I think they'll be too stiff.

I run Purples in the front of the Deefer with the Tdi, bull bar, yada yada yada and I'm either going to try 190lb/in or air bags if funds allow.

Uninformed went from some Kings equivalents of the LRA/Browns Springs Purples to 190lb/in in his 110 trayback and loves them with the 80 Series Koni's he runs.

[edit]Having said that, 220's suit the way I drive, the bump stops are pretty highly polished :angel: and it was over ten or twelve years ago I spoke to Andrew about spring rates and he mentioned they used the Purples in the front of their race Rangie.

LRA Green stripe ie 92 rear springs 160Lb /inch will be the go in the front and give about 20Mm lift with a bull bar.
If you have a working hydromat then orange rear 180Lb will give 2 inch lift and good ride . I had this setup in my 91 RRC with airbags and it was perfect towing my 1000Kg Camper.
If no hydromat then maybe 220Lb same as Disco but ride will suffer, but better than now .
Talk to Andrew at LRA.
I have Greens in my Disco and am happy and i have Kings 2 inch lift in the back at about 220Lb.

Hydromat is stuffed, it already has green stripe up front and is sitting very low - a tad under 2" to the bump stops. The 220's I have I pulled out the back this morning I'll try in the front, but if that's no good I'll go shopping for something a bit lighter.

The new springs in the back gave me an extra 10mm. I'm not looking to lift it much above standard just want it so it's not wallowing in the front like it does now with the extra weight.

Once I get it fully set in the back up I'll revisit the suspension and get it sorted properly. I just want a 'good enough for now' so I can user while finishing it off. :). The 220's are probably more than enough for the back, but they are the next step up that I have available from the 160's currently in the front that are not up to snuff, so that's the only reason I'm trying them. :)

Well, rear end is all done, total increase in height with no load in the back - 6mm. It is much firmer in the rear now but not too bad - much better than the 101... :D. Happy with it at the moment. Once I get the back loaded and the van on the towbar, I'll reassess.

So, onto the front next - looking at where the front spring is compressed to at the moment and knowing I need it to come up about 30 to 35mm I think the purple springs are going to be too much without even trying, so I have some thinking to do now.

Also, does anyone know the standard ride heights of an 85RRC so I can compare what I have now to what the factory intended?

That was with holden v8 bar and winch, batteries were in the back.
With the isuzu (winch, bar, batteries etc..) i now run the 270's in the front and 320 in the rear which i will change to airbags i think. It was no good with the 220 in the front.

Did you try the springs you got from me. They did drop a bit with all the gear I had on the front so might be about the right height. I have another set of HD fronts that are for extra weight and suppose to be about 30mm lift. You can have them to try if you like. Might be just a matter of trying a few to see what works for you.

Yep, they're the ones I'm playing with Dave - the backs are in and will be right once I get some load in the back. I'm going to try those fronts soon - I'm employed again so no time to work on the car at the moment. :D

I replaced my 85 pre-swaybar RRC with Dobinsons,C51 series 017 I think were the rears,it tightened up the body roll,I also replaced the front with the same brand all standard height,got them through Repco, been in 4years+ did the same with the D1 300TDI am very happy with the results
