This is the problem I had when I decided to go for gas. Petrol, gas , gas .petrol???? This is the solution I came up with. 80 litres gas and keep all the petrol you want, you lose about the same space as the spare when you put it out back. Cheers, Phil
A tD5 in an LSE is a lovely combination... Heaps of range, power on tap and it drives as it should have from Day- One. Way better than my 3.9 Vogue. I'd disagree, engine note is easier on the ear than the unbalanced, resonating V8.
Depends on whether you prefer to DRIVE it or LISTEN to the car...

I was taken for a spin in a Lse with a td5 engine in it some years ago when I was up in Cairns, It moved, very impressive, My lse with the Tdi 300 in it does 9 to 10 lts per 100kls all day every day with a range of 2000 kls, when I use it.

I suspect the LSE I drove is the same one that you did... Did it have gas struts to lift/hold the bonnet ? Aluminium roof-rack ?
- I reckon it was 'better' all round performance, particularly taming hills, than my '95 Vogue SE petrol guzzler. Would certainly out-accelerate it from a standing start...
What's your's like in those areas ?

My totally stock 3.9 Litre 94 LSE, depending on how fast/hard it is driven, around home [small country town] and on forest tracks returns fuel consumption figures from 18 litres per hundred kays up to the mid 20s'.
On secondary bitumen highways it uses 14/16 L per 100 kays.
On the Hume Freeway at 110 kmh it drinks between 12.6 and 13.8 depending on traffic, load carried and my right foot.
By way of comparison my 2013, 2.4 litre auto petrol Grand Vitara fourby consumes around 12/14 L per 100 kms around town and on forest tracks.
On secondary bitumen highways it uses around 10 L per 100 kays.
I don't know about the 110 kmh Hume Freeway ? it doesn't get driven on it.
The Rangy uses fuel....no question about it but it's not the total fuel cost of the Rangy but rather the difference between the two which counts for me. Looked at this way the Rangy isn't that hugely 'over the top' expensive to run. But then there is the interior space, the comfortable EAS ride, the command seating position, the clear vision all round, the V8 burble......no contest really.
Can appreciate the 'logic' above, apart from the v8 'burble'...

Being of a Certain Vintage, the muted hummm of a Jaguar 6 cyl is Classical music to my ears, the V8 being discordant and syncopated jazz. ;)
Yours does quite well on the open road... Mine is, well, not the most relaxing to drive out there, so my fuel figures are few and far between. But much heavier at around 17 to 22 l/100km.
Despite no Cruise Control, the Mazda Protege is better for my 100km country runs, and the BMW Mini was also bearable. So was it's 40+ mpg.
- Seats in both leave a bit to be desired.:(

What I do know though is that I like the exhaust sound with the window wound down when I press the go pedal. Much better than the sewing machine 'zing' I get from my Suzi. There is no comparison!

Sarah got a 'Bee-Utey' IGN setup plus new leads & rotor button quite early in her life with me. Timing is, well, "Not retarded..." Usually run 91 RON but will top up with 95 or 98 if the price is right. I think it makes a small differance...;)
Yes, I've been thinking that a top-end refresher would not go astray, at 200K+
Oxy sensors etc might also be worthwhile.
I'd forgotten about fuel quality and/or rating. Mine wouldn't know what 91 is - never had it - it only gets 95 or 98 and then only at major brand petrol retailers - usually Caltex.
Mine goes well. It has had a few engine mods ,bigger inter cooler etc.It was an easy conversion. But it was no match for the TD5. Modified by a very talented Gentleman who I believe now lives in Toowoomba.Quote:
