Pull the plugs, if they're wet with fuel you've flooded it. Crank it over with your accelerator flat to the floor if that is the case.

Ok so pulled plugs and cleared it out. It went to start but pump has stopped I'm suspecting a blockage again in the fuel line. As when you disconnect the line from pump it works. Any suggestions

Check that there is a white wire with a black stripe connected to the ignition coil negative connection. If this connection is loose or off you won't have any rotation input to the ECU so it won't keep the fuel pump running after the initial few seconds.

Also if the fuel pump is running but producing no pressure the outlet hose from the pump (inside the fuel tank) may have burst. Many people when replacing fuel pumps just wreck the plastic OEM pressure hose and replace it with ordinary EFI hose. This stuff isn't rated for immersion and needs to be replaced by the proper submersible stuff.

Lastly check that the fuel pressure regulator isn't stuffed and leaking fuel into the inlet manifold via its vacuum hose connection, around the back of the inlet manifold.

Why not disconnect the fuel line at the engine end to see if you have flow and pressure?

Don't put compressed air though the line from the tank end if you have not disconnect the fuel pressure regulator. I made this mistake once, it stuffs the diaphragm in the regulator.

I had a similar issue once, all I needed was more fuel in the tank. I know it sounds dumb it took me ages to just put 15 litres in it and it started first go. I was kicking myself.

How's this going Dan? One other thing you can check easily is depressing the schrader valve on the fuel injector rail - it's on the drivers side. If you have good fuel pressure it will squirt out a good ways. Iver just done the pump in mine due to hard starting - made a huge difference. The Bosch pump isn't expensive.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Getting there. We are getting a second hand pump to test if the pump is the cause. It would build pressure great but then slowly die to give nothing.

It sounds like your starting to go in circles. It's about now you want to go back to basics.

ie: whip out a plug and have someone crank the engine. If you have a nice healthy spark ....

    Do these checks anyway:

    -- firing order....

ignore the placement of the leads in the dizzie cap. Follow No 1 (look at the diagram, number one is front right if your stranding at the front of the engine bay). Trace this lead upto the dizzie cap.

Givent he diagrams .... in a clockwise direction around the dizzie cap trace the leads down too the engine ... You should have 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

If this is correct ( You MUST spend the time and follow each lead with your finger to make sure it's going to the right plug)....

Top Dead Center ... Pull No 1's plug. Shove a length of fuel line in it (gotta thank the guys here for that tip) and roll it over until No 1 is on the compression stroke. Now stick a straw or similar down there and get the piston right at the top of the stroke. If you check the timing marks now you should be at TDC.... about 0degrees. If your not your timing scale must be wrong. Set the timing to 6degrees for now. Check the rotor button is pointing to No 1 lead on the dizzie cap ... if it's not re-arrange the leads so it is !!

Don't assume someone hasn't buggered the dizzie like I did with mine. Does the rotor buttom smoothly rotate forward a little against the advance mechanism ? then snap back when released. If not, the advance mechanism springs will be off. they will not start if this happens (ask me how I know ). Whip the dizzie out and strip the top out of it. The fix will be obvious as soon as you pull the plate out and see the advance mechanism. DO NOT PULL ON THE ROTOR BUTTON WITHOUT HOLDING THE CENTER OF THE DIZZIE IN PLACE WITH A SCREW DRIVER ... Guess how I know this stuff

beg, borrow or steal ( ) a fuel pressure gauge of some sort (wow there cheap these days) CAR Fuel Injection Pressure Tester Gauge KIT Test SET NEW Auto Tool Petrol | eBay

Get someone to crank the engine, if you have good fuel pressure, your wasting your time playing with fuel pumps. If the engine seems to be flooding you may have leaking injectors, are any individual plugs wet (ie: that cylinders injector is leaking).

    try this

mate had a rangie that wouldnt start. did all the checks and nothing. i did a google search and discovered theres a small swith<button under the passenger seat. you could kick it with your foot if you were sat in the back seat. i never got to see it as i was giving him directions over the phone. its a fuel cut off motion switch. apparently if you have an accident this will turn off the fuel flow.

if you can find something that sounds like this, press, flick it and see what happens. worth a try. once he knew where it was took him 3 seconds to have the car running. worth a try

    cheers cactus
