I did this conversion years ago on a 90 Rangie Vogue SE with ABS as the pump was on it's way out. Instead of spending a small fortune on the ABS I ditched it, cost me bugger all (I had a 88 Rangie donor with non abs and used all the bits off that). I never had it engineered, put it through a roadworthy and nobody thought the wiser. I did get a comment that the brakes were really good though :D

Funny you should say that... the old '89 I used to tow a > 2 tonne plant/trailer had magnificent braking, (Owner didn't skimp on servicing) Controllable, progressive and never locked up... pushing more = More Braking. Simple...:DQuote:

With 255 85 16 Mud terrains, Twin lockers etc Believe will be a better thing without the ABS and traction control.

I did this mody some years ago on my LSE, Not really happy with it. All new parts and the brakes arnt that good and there is always a tendancy for brake fade. I'm now having a set of Defender front calipers modified to fit the LSE, in the hopes that things will improve.
How are they being modified? I have them on my lse, bolted straight on from memory

Yes I have thought of that as a last resort.
I pull a 3.5 ton boat and I really need good brakes. The LSE is very lethargic when it comes to stopping. My newly acquired 93 Rangie still has abs, and is better, But my son has a total abused 91 Rangie and the brakes are brilliant,,WHY!!
I,m hopping that the defender calipers will fix both cars.
Different brand or class of pads, disk may differ as to material/manufacturer..this can be a 'biggie' as my past experience showed.Quote:

50K later, (new pads..:o ) the machining discolouration marks were still evident !
Sold the car with over 300K on those rotors...and NO discernable wear, nor did they even think of going out of 'true'...or shudder.
Maintaining the braking system, along with consumables makes a difference. New fluid every year or two also helps ! :angel:
