"... One other (perhaps unusual) item I am looking for is an external sun visor ... but I see a considerable merit in having one fitted. Particularly for my knees not getting sunburned ..."

Hey Mercguy - I couldn't agree more re sunburned knees and will keep watch for an exterior windscreen visor solution as an altenative to my tea/beach towel protection.

I have installed this Solarscreen - Quality custom made window insulation for Motorhomes, 4x4s, Boats and Cars product I originally bought for 100 Series around 8 years ago. Their window treatments over all rear windows drastically improved interior comfort and a/c run time in our 100 when we were living in the Pilbara. They supplied a piece about 6" high designed to go across the windscreen covering the lower part which I never installed until last month when I put it in the RR - its a good improvement. No loss of vision and notably cooler around the front of the cab. Also keeps all that dash stuff from melting into each other (tyre press, pliers, sunnies phones etc etc). We also have black (quite poss illegal now) tint which helps as the car is a 1990 CSK black - anything helps!

I'm presently looking at "Dynamat" type products to further reduce heat (and noise), but heat especially from around the footwell and over the tranny.

    Matt
Thanks for the link, as I've often wondered who was making those silver quilts I'd seen on Toyotas up here. I agree with the tinting and whatever else to keep the sun out, though at the moment I'm using that cheap stick-on stuff full of tiny holes for the rear window.

I've got Dynamat and Dynaliner all over the floor and it's made a huge difference.

Ordered my Visor this arvo. from Highway @ Lidcombe.

    Just as an FYI:
LE15 is the model for RRC.

The product has Stainless Steel side brackets, an 8mm rolled reinforced front and rear Lip bead, plus bailey channel clamps on the rear of the awning as well... It is not going to move or flutter.
    Price:
    $220.

They have a 3 week backlog at the moment, but at that price I don't care ! The product is sold finished in Primer, so I'll naturally spray it something that completely detracts from the vehicles handsome looks. Like fluoro orange or something.

Actually It will be getting powdercoated by the blokes just up the road from me.

    For the windows:
Solarscreen is getting back to me tomorrow confirming They have the template for the full set -

It's worth noting they have a general 'standard rate' for various 'sections' as some people for example don't want driver/passenger front windows or some proplr only want the rear cargo area etc.. and it's the same for most all 4x4's.

I asked for the full set - it's $499 so that's pretty good value when you consider it is literally everything. i.e. all the windows.

Regarding whether or not they have a 4 door RRC template: If not, I'll be the guinea-pig, as they send out a template kit for the customer to create, which ensures the finished product is exactly as the customer sizes it for their application.

So if you have something other than a 4x4 or you have a strange window shape or accessory, that is not an issue, they will send you material to make the template, you send it back and they make it to spec. I thought this was a good service to offer, because not everyone's vehicle is exactly the same, and some people have accessories which may hinder access to windows etc.

Also, very helpful on the phone - and polite customer service - something that is quite rare these days! No problem answering all my questions and certainly efficient - there is a flat pricing structure, so it's not like you're getting gouged because it's not a current mainstream model jap truck... (I am used to the 'because you own a merc you must be rich so our price just quadrupled' gouge attempts, so it was refreshing to hear too)

Hopefully they have a template set already, that would save waiting- but if not, I'm not too worried. For my money, it's a total no-brainer because My RRC is parked outside in full sun, so the complete kit will literally save me a complete interior refit. Despite the fact I have already got 3M tint on the vehicle, in the last 12 months I have watched it slowly deteriorate inside due to the high temps and constant sun. So this will help.

Seems I missed all the hubbub last week while overseas working. A few pics n pieces missing, which I'll try to replace in my earlier posts.

Basically, the product arrived on Monday last week, which was of course one day after I flew out.... Thanks Australia post Chullora - you slack buggers. So I had to wait until today to 'receive' the delivered package.

So the service from Alan & Reneé at SolarScreen was excellent. Dispatched and on it's way via Auspost in under 24 hours. In Sydney 24hrs later. Then on the Auspost slow-boat...

So SolarScreen's service in a single word is: Fantastic.

The product is well-made. No doubt at all about this.

packaged in two separate bags, it's neat and tidy and manageable.

Instructions are also on an A4 sheet - Nice and clear - Alan also included spare suction cups as well.

I'll post some pics in the morning with the product fitted. Bit too dark to get a good image right now.

Unfortunately the rain this morning curbed my enthusiasm to get nicer pictures, and I snapped these in a hurry between showers.
Hopefully it will give you an indication of the setup.

I need to send the front screen piece back, to have the slit for the mirror cut and edgebound. This was fortuitous actually.
Due to the windscreen being recently replaced, the mirror is not in the exactly correct position. it's approximately 15-20mm to the right of centre.

After discussing this with Alan this morning, he was eager to have me send the front screen back with my measurements on the back side of the screen, so it could be custom cut to fit exactly.

The reason there was no cut, was because the original set he made 20 years ago possibly did not have the front screen pad made for the customer.
I was thinking it may have been because of a possible difference between an early RRC and later - perhaps the mirror was mounted on the body and not the windscreen. (I'm not an expert, but suspect this may be a possibility)

Regardless, the outcome is exactly how I want it. and because my mirror isn't in the right spot, the solarscreen will fit exactly once the cut is made.

Very happy - and the quality is fantastic.

Wasn't too hot today, so I'll see how we go over the next couple of weeks.

Yup, it's mounted on the ceiling.

Big up for posting about this - I am going to order one for myself - sick of sun burn and too hot for jeans! I'll paint mine black to match all the other bolt-ons
