    Engine update on RRC

    Hi All,

I thought I'd up date everyone as to situation with my RRC 2 Door.

For those not knowing I had a ticking / knocking noise which now may be piston slap in one cylinder.
I've owned vehicle for 12 years, never boiled and doesn't blow smoke.
I did change carbies to a Holley 350 thanks to Meccles one of our members which I've rebuilt though I've only run it several times to avoid further engine damage.

Thanks to Rok Dr who gave me a couple of leads on mechanics to check out I decided to get some quotes on rebuilding my 3.5V8 carbie engine which I thought would be fairly simple for most mechanic and reasonably inexpensive.

    I've had prices as follows:
Local mechanic I've used on a Disco (I previously owned) wanted $3.9K to rebuild if I supplied all the parts and wouldn't give it a warrantee (as he didn't know the quality of the parts)
Landover mechanic quoted approx 5K sight unseen, but need to get vehicle to them
Another Landrover mechanic hasn't got back after two calls ??bugger
    Another mechanic quoted 7.5K ?.

To me these are crazy $$$ for an engine who's parts are so readily available so I decided to look for a donor engine to put in and rebuild my engine over a period of time.
So for the last 6 months I been searching Gumtree and finally came across and purchase this.

    It's a 1992 Range rover Vogue ? licensed with a sweet 3.9 fuel injected V8
It runs on fuel and gas, body straight and interior is ok?.all windows operate including sunroof and to be honest it's too good to part out.
It cost me 1.8K and I've decided to put my 2 Door on jack stands and rebuild the engine while I still get to drive a Classic.

It has had its airbag suspension removed but the spring used do give it an excellent armchair ride compared to my 2 door which is tighter due to its lift, springs and shockies.

So far I've changed coolant, oil and replaced air filter ?..it did break down 26K out of Perth and had to be towed home by the RAC but that was due to a number of crimped wires one which had broken off. I've spent several days soldering and heat shrinking as many wires as I can find and hasn't been a problem since.

Most surprising of all was my wife who has been very supportive and was happy for me to purchase it ?..I have asked her if I could keep an example of a 2 door and a 4 door classic but haven't had a reply as yet.

At the end of the day after rebuilding my 2 door I know I can get my money back on the 4 door ?..but fingers crossed I may get to keep her yet.

    Ive attached some photo's

    Cheers

Hi Baggy good to hear your news. Enjoy the 4 door, re the 2 door one option is to buy new engine bits from say V8 tuner in UK, then give not to a Mechanic but to engine reconditioner shop. You need to get engine out however that is pretty straightforward if you have a bit of time.
If you do a reco you then know history of engine and exactly what parts went into it, whereas a donor engine can be hit and miss.
    Anyway enjoy your new ride

I have the remains of a RRC 93 mainly a 3.9i still sitting in the chassis, but less a few parts like radiator which were removed by Joe Woods who was going to take the rolling chassis to put a series 3 on. I haven't heard from him for many months despite several attempts to contact him, and I need it gone, so if you want to take the lot, its yours. Dave Dover said the engine was a good runner, for what its worth.
