Death rattle. Unexpected, require quick contingency plan

Sure it's not some external attachment that's vibrating at certain RPM ? I once had a broken exhaust hanger on the engine.. only moved apart enough from the engine torque under load and resonated at speed... thought the engine was grinding itself to pieces. :o

Be cautious about an ally Holden V8, - my #1 son's Statesman overheated yesterday (cold, rain, snow, or feels like it !) and it turned out to be low on OIL.
Coolant was full, and clean, no bubbles or oily stuff. He can't see evidence of a smoke screen behind, or the car 'marking it's territory'..:wasntme: Claims he checked the oil last week (?) but adding a litre seems to have cooled it and got him home on "Normal" temp. He's gone to work this morning, and no frantic phone calls... Yet.

Well I had the plenum off, checked the trumpets. all AOK. Started checking for things like CRACKS in engine mounts and stuff, but nothing...

Like your experience with the exhaust hanger, I too had thoughts like this originally. Mostly because there was no obvious reason for such an instant occurrence.

The noise is still there, more noticeable when the engine is cold, and the same symptoms. i.e. only under load, only at ⅓ or greater throttle and around 2500+rpms.

I'm still sure the diagnosis of crook lifters and cam wear is accurate, but I really want to prove that there is nothing else..

The OM606 swap has been moved into high gear now...
