95 RRC Sunroof glass panel replacement - help needed

    G'day Guys,

Has anyone sourced a replacement sunroof glass panel and frame in their Rangie?

The frame that supports the glass on mine has rusted away. I pulled it apart and cleaned all the rust out of it and preserved what was left before reattaching the glass. I was hoping I might get away with it and bought a new seal, but no . There not enough steel around the edge to hold the seal even if sikaflexed the hell out of it.

I've been on the net looking for a replacement with no joy. Does anyone know if the P38 or Disco 1 sunroofs are the same? or was it a RRC glass sunroof unique?

or. . . you could get another roof... without a hole. - Interior hoodlining replacement will be cheaper and, drum roll - NO leaks around seals, watermarked headlining, wet seats or wind noise.

    Plus a tad more headroom.

OH NO Superquag I've just had the roof off and bear metal resprayed it AND I've just redone my headlining. There's no turning back now . Also I think the leaks come from blocked drain tubes from the 4 corners of the assembly. I've cleared mine out which were pretty clogged with dirt and mould. That's the reason I think the last owner had a full tube of silicon pumped in around the opening.

Also I live in Cairns so wreaking yards with land rovers in them are none existent .

Jezza I'm after part 9 the metal frame the glass bonds to.

I'm heading down for a visit to Lismore to see the in-laws in two weeks so I might have to spend some quality time at some wreaking yards. I so miss "Pick & Payless" in Sydney when I used to live there.

It's a little quiet at work so been searching the net again.

Found in another forum that the 95RRC has the same sunroof as the P38 . Should be easier to find a P38 roof than a RRC. Should be lots of them in wreaking yards as the P38 wasn't the most loved of the Range Rover models

I've had a dealer WARN me to never EVER drive on....'cos they are SO nice to drive and I'd want it... the biggest POS that Landrover have ever built...
They generally co$t a heap to get 'right' and keep them there... Only for the wealthy and / or Lucky.

Claims the P38 work gives him a Good Living.

My Brother in law has a pretty sweet 02 P38 HSE with a bosch 4.6 engine. I've spent a lot of time on it over the years. My last trip to Lismore "just so happened" to be when he visited his parents up from Newcastle.

So as soon as I arrived he asked if I could help him out on just a few little problem he was having. The first of the little problems was the transfer case drive chain . The second was the recalibration of the air suspension that he'd downloaded some free software for . So that was 2 days of my visit. Cheeky bugger took off as soon as we'd finished and didn't even buy the beers!

Anyway I've driven it quite a few times and really am not that impressed with the ride. It's a bit harsh I find for a Rangie. Didn't ride anywhere near as comfy as the 93 Vouge or the Disco 2 I've owned. I'll stick to the Classics I think.

Side note: Have you seen how much the Classics are starting to sell for in the UK? 50K for a 94 and 100K for a 72 two door and that is GBP not the Aussie Paso

Well I've just returned from North NSW and am VERY DISAPOINTED . Went to all the wreckers around Byron and Lismore and only one P38 with no sunroof and not a 90's classic to speak of . So back to square 1 again.

So the plan now is to make the sunroof glass frame myself. I'll use some 2mm gal sheet, cut out the correct shape and have a sheet metal shop swage a channel in the centre of the flat plate to give it some rigidity and put it through some rollers to give it shape. Then I'll cut the brackets off the old frame and spend a bit of time making sure they are in the right spot and rivet and weld them to the frame. Wish me luck. I'll take pictures of the progress and post.

Also the trip down south see me and a kangaroo meeting on the road between Emerald and Claremont at around 1 in the morning where he proceeded to ruin the front of my Freelander 2 and hole the radiator. Stranded for the night but Kseal works a treat and I continued the trip.

I think there was a '94 Vogue at one of the car yards in town that might have had a sunroof ... It was a non-runner .. quite battered sitting on flat tires (disco metal wheels) and broken windscreen ... It had lovely leather interior and the rest was rubbish. He wanted $800 bucks for it ( I was thinking $200 just for the interior). I'll see if it's still there if your that desperate.

Problem is he'll still want $800 bucks for what is a parts car if it's still there.

I'd be interested in some of the internal veneer and maybe more if that helps mitigate!
