Has the fuel pump outlet been connected to the fuel tank breather to cannister hose by accident?
Hi, I've got an issue which I hope someone can help me with. I'm restoring a 78 2 door, up until now I've concentrated on engine, brakes suspension. Had some welding done on rear crossmember and as such had to remove the tank. Since then I've had countless issues with the fuel system, (doesn't drive as splutters under acceleration).
Today I was trying to fire her up after about 8 months and it wouldn't start, but more importantly fuel started pumping out of the bottom hole on the adsorption canister. Never had this before.....Also never had an issue with starting before.....during the welding work the fuel pump was removed and so was the fuel filter, they may have been put back incorrectly but why would this result in fuel coming out the canister?? Any help much appreciated.
Has the fuel pump outlet been connected to the fuel tank breather to cannister hose by accident?
Will have a look tomorrow, but for clarity can you provide the order the hoses on top should be in? The middle hose is and has always been disconnected....it doesn't appear to be long enough
Is the canister still plumbed into carbies as original?
Yes, it's as it was when purchased.
If electric fuel pump put around the wrong way around and pumping into tank pressure could be pumping fuel via the return fuel pipe from the RH CD175 and then through to LH carbie. Both are connected to absorbsion cannister ......
Baggy
Baggy, that sounds like a very possible option. Thanks. Will have a look in the morning. Cheers
Does anyone know what happens if the canister gets blocked off or completely removed? m
1. Petrol fumes leak out in unusual places, leading to rude comments from passers by.
2. zero pressure in the fuel tank leads to moisture ingress and possibly failure of fuel pump due to rust.
There really is no point in removing the charcoal canister, it's one of the most benign anti pollution devices and costs nothing to leave well alone.
bee utey. Thanks for the heads up! Will leave mine untouched then. I always wanted to keep it in the engine bay for the looks but will make sure it works once the RR gets back on the road (which will be a while
!). m
