That had scam written all over it, hopefully you can get your $$ back.
I saw a nice 1994 Rangie 'Soft Dash" on Gumtree with manual box and leather interior. Just what I was looking for.
I sent an enquiry and got this reply.
Hello and thank you for your email,
My name is Steven, happy to see you are interested in my Land Rover Range Rover 1994. I have dropped my price to $7.000 (purchase price) but let me give you a few details about my vehicle: really good shape, never had any problems with it, no minor scratches, no dents, the car is free of any accidents, it has 196.993 kms, full service history, the registration is legally under my name, clear and free of any liens or loans. Meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident.
I sell my car because recently I was promoted and transferred to RAAF Base Tindal for a 5 years period, therefore we have to let it go.
Let me know if you need any further details or if you would like to buy my car.
PS: I attached more pictures.
Thank you,
SGT Steven Salvarinov
With pics of a NSW registered Rangie matching the description.

Sounds too good to be true? Sure was.
I had some trouble with the website, but didn't twig !!
I went to my bank and transferred the $7,000 to a Bank in the UK
Then the wheels started falling off when I got this from the seller:
Hi again , just wanted to give you a quick update.I have just received a notice from Amazon Global stating that they have sent you the Invoice to your e-mail address.
You can also login into your account and you will have the payment details sent there.
Thank you and let me know!
I told him I had not received any email from AMAZON GLOBAL
Then I got this email:
Dear Jeff Gordon,
This is very important for all our customers!
We had to end our escrow banking service with Halifax Bank in the United Kingdom.
They have big security issue in their system and we had to recover a big amount recently from them.
You must call your bank to stop the money transfer that you sent us yesterday.
We will provide you a new Invoice with an Australian bank account wich offers the best security purchase service.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience but we put the safety of our clients on the top.
We will give you a bonus for this error, we will deduct $2000 from the price of the car so the next Invoice will be lower.
We will cover the loss for the seller.
Please recover your money asap so we can issue the other Invoice.
Your bank institution will be able to stop the transfer or to ask the refund to Halifax Bank.
Amazon Global Customer Support Team
By this time my radar was beeping strongly. I rang the bank in the UK and spoke to the Fraud team.
I went to my bank at 9am the next morning and they were able to intercept the transfer and cancel it.
I'm not out of the Woods yet as the fund have not yet been returned.
I think I have located the perpetrator on Facebook. An overseas dude with IT skills. but I could be wrong.
He's the only one with that name.
That had scam written all over it, hopefully you can get your $$ back.
Oldest scam in the book.
Except in your case, replace "Nigerian prince on a boat" with "SGT Steven Salvarinov in a RAAF base"
You're lucky your money was not lost for good.

'El Burro' 2012 Defender 90.
You are one lucky fella
Let it be a lesson learned
Big ticket items i never let money out of my sight till i`ve seen the item
repeat after me
gumtree is for face to face, cash only transactions.
I dealt with this scam myself when buying a defender. I called the Australian defence force and had them run his name through their system to see if he would show up (because he claims to be in the RAAF), of course nothing did at all.
I doubt he uses the same name for his scams as he does for his Facebook. So whoever you're looking at most likely isn't him.
Really interesting to read what I luckily dodged just a month or two back
Hello to all. This is my first post on the site since joining so be kind iff I stuff up anything. Pity it has to be regarding a low life scammer at work.

This scammer has resurfaced for a 6x6 Perentie Original advert is in www.showandsellcars.com.au/used-car/20648/1990-land-rover-110-perentie-manual-6x6.html
Really dodgy add. Check rego at Vic Roads and it is actually 1998 model.
Same dodgy story back from Steven by email. Have asked for lots more detail like ARN and VIN etc . He will no doubt go to ground and not reply.

I live at RAAF Tindal and I'm pretty sure using real or fake defence credentials is against the law. If I see this Steven fella, Il be sure to drag him by the ear to a local authority..
