Help me make a decision!

Asking these guys to guide you away from another project would be like asking long grassers to help you give up your drinking problem! You know where this is heading! (No offense to long grassers and not implying you have a drinking problem - LRover problem maybe[smilebigeye] - I've looked for remedial help in Darwin for myself, but there is none).


Sounds like you should tackle the ignition problem. You still have NT plates so rego with a sympathetic mechanic should not be an issue.

I'm going to assume your vehicle originally had a steel petrol tank. If you decided to go back to go back to petrol I have two tanks you could have for free.

The first is steel from an '84 RRC, otherwise sound but for the rusted drain hole which would need a patch; also need to get new pump, bits of rubber pipe etc. The second is a poly tank out of a '98 petrol Discovery; it'll fit in place of the steel tank, but you would have to alter the tank mounts, get a pump etc (I've fitted a TD5 tank into my '84 RRC Isuzu, still figuring out the plumbing). Then of course is getting it to you cost effectively.

Alternatively, get one of your servicemen with a truck going to Darwin to dump it at my place...actually, forget I suggested it...got to resist...got to go back to the 10 other projects waiting at the shed...back off Davo, precious is mine, isn't it master?!

'93 RRC ran a plastic tank, same as D1 to 1998.

... IF it has a NEW Viscious Coupling and drive chain... in the transfer case, it's good for at least 150K+... and that alone is worth its weight in Unobtanium. - a dead VC (locked) was the prime reason for divorcing the Lady Sarah. (Went to a good home, where she'll be getting an LT230 transplant)

Seriously, proper marine epoxy on the woodwork - not cheap varnish - will fix most of the wood trim.

EDIT:- being a plastic fuel tank, if it leaks from the top fittings, it will be subject of that recall.... My '94/5 Classic got a NEW tank under warranty, only a few years ago. Check VIN with a LR dealer.

It's been a long week, trying to work out what to do and all.

I think I have decided that it's not for me and I would like to pass it on to someone who could use it, whether for parts or to get going again.

I will be removing the bull bar and the animal cage/divider thingo, but can fit an alloy bull bar back on if it is a issue.

I would have liked to grab the wood off of the dash and console, but it's best to stay with the car. I would have also liked to grab the rear tail shaft for my ute project(maybe swaps). There isn't anything else of use to me without pulling it right apart.

So if anyone would like it for what ever, let me know. I could get it to Darwin easily and probably as a back load as far south as PT Augusta.

Again, I really don't have the space for it to sit as a parts car.

It breaks my heart as I know there is potential, but with no storage and a possible move at the end of the year, just can't do it.

Davo would be the obvious choice at this stage, if he is keen, and can figure a cost effective way of getting it. Sounds like he would make better use of it than me.

As a last resort I can take it just from the point of saving it as a whole, provided it costs me next to nothing. It will sit outdoors with the other 3 RRC I have that are primarily as spares for my Isuzu project (the 4th RRC).

While I don't have a particular interest in V8s the burble does sound nice. I may be tempted in the future (if the Isuzu project ever finishes) to skill up on them and repair one of the four which is petrol EFI.

In regard to another one of the four I have, the previous owner seemed to be setting up as a street racer (he passed away), has what I believe is a Ford Windsor 305 with Edelbrock induction, 3 speed auto, but unfortunately just on gas, runs nicely, gets a rare run around the property, but not registered (has some peculiarities which might cause rego issues, but at this stage I'm not bothered to investigate) and which means I can't just drive down the public road to keep the gas topped up. This is also another potential project for me.

Try and get your next posting to Darwin so you can work on it as your vehicle at weekends at my place (and fix my ones while your at it) :)

I shall endeavor to get a freight quote this week and will let you know. If I can get it organised, we can figure out what you want to take off of it. Can you get it to a freight yard?

I know how you feel. I'd love to save everything I see but you have to be careful. Everybody knows about that single guy, living on a bush block full of old car wrecks, which he will never sell . . . and I think we all know how things got to that point!

Workingonit, if Davo isn't keen/can't do it, I can get it to East Arm in Darwin, so from there I guess we can work something out if that is something you would like to do. Also, you say you have three other RRC's sitting around, one of these wouldn't happen to have a rear propshaft that could be negotiated for?
