Noisy Rad fan after clutch replacement

    G'day Guys

I've just changed the radiator fan clutch on my 95 and bugger me is it LOUD!

Fair enough the cluch was totally knackered but it was really quiet. Now it has a new clutch it is so noisy it's all you can hear inside the cabin with the windows up.

The new clutch does seem to be working ok it's just the fan is really loud now and I don't like it at all.

I ordered was supose to be getting a Bearmark one but a Britpart one was delivered .

Has anyone else experience this in a RRC or Disco 1?

The fan on my D2a is somewhat noisy on startup and you can certainly hear it when it cuts in as the engine heats up, I think this is normal as it is quite a large fan.
Your old buggered fan would have been super quiet because it wasn't spinning at the same speed it is now with the new clutch installed and you are noticing it.

X2. Fans are inherently noisy when they are working.

Is it an air noise roar or some other noise?

Every so often I get a crook fan clutch that never releases. A normal fan should roar when first started then taper off as the fluid escapes the centre section. It should reconnect and have a loud fan when it gets hot. Any clutch that stays fully coupled all the time on a normally cool to warm day is faulty.

If its going all the time the blades won't take it as the revs rise and they explode taking out the cowling, damaging bonnet and maybe radiator (Personal experience) so don't just leave it listen to bee utey

    Thanks guys,

I've only got about 10km on the new viscous clutch so far. It's not locked and seems to ok just the roar is off putting. Maybe I need to put a few more Kms on it. I've still got the old one in the car with the spanner to change it if it really starts to worry me.

    I'll keep you's posted.
