    Intake trumpets

Has anyone replaced or otherwise tinkered with the intake trumpets on a RRC V8? Tornado Systems have a carbon fibre set for a not ridiculous price and I wondered if a) there's any noticeable difference and b) if a retune is required?

    TIA.

noticable? maybe on a dyno, supposedly short for high revs/power, long for torque.
    Have you measured yours?
    these ones?

Seeing the system was originally designed by Rover for the Rover Vitesse it is geared towards high rev running. The distance between valve and throttle is quite short so regardless of what you do with trumpets it will still be short of low rev torque.
the real answer is to replace the whole intake with a manifold from a D2 or late 38a which is not easy with an auto as you have to rig up a kick down.
After I did it and fitted a unichip I gained 50% torque from 1500 tp 3000 and lost 10% above 4000rpm.

Thanks guys. Mine is a 4.2 in a 1988 classic. Manual trans. How involved is the manifold change? I've already had a ecu retune from Davis Performance.

Have you considered a Plenum spacer, to give another 0,5 litres of volume ?

Look here:- We've already visited this subject... 3.9 Plenum top cover spacer ?

    .

What the heck, why not confound the issue with some side-of-bonnet louvres to reduce engine-room temperature / heat soak, change out the mechanical viscous fan for a pair of Ford Falcon thermos... and you'll never know which one did the deed !

Well That depends on what you have done to the 88 to run a 4.2.
if you have a 14CUX it is quite easy.
You have to cut the bosses for the coils off the back of the manifold, and use an early 14CUX rail ( I know a 91 is OK) which has the FPR on the RH side. The later rails with the FPR on the LH side do not have enough clearance. You have to elongate the hold down holes on the fuel rail but no big deal.
A hose to the air cleaner and MAF has to be made.
You have to rig up a stepper motor arrangement. I just made a hole in the MAF to TPS hose and a couple of copper elbows and a hose to the manifold after the throttle.
An additional nipple has to be added to the RH front side of the manifold to run a hose to the FPR in addition to the hoses for crankcase ventilation and vacuum and fuel carbon trap. Rig up hoses for these.
The Thor TPS on mine did not work so I jury rigged a TPS from 14CUX, however if the TPS that comes with the Thor is OK you can use that. Make up electrical connections.
Make up an accelerator cable using your old cable.

That is about it. The most difficult thing with mine was to rig up a kickdown cable , but you do not have that problem.

It may be different if you are running a flapper and I don't really know how it would go.

    Regards Philip A
