Have you tested the transfer case yet ? ........................... Before you either get embarrassingly bogged with one wheel spinning on green grass ........ Or trash the driveline and shatter then 'cv joints (guess how I know this ...).

the boss women here gives good feedback..... I took her car last weekend as the old Rangie costs so much to drive any distance. 10minutes out of town the phone rings "The door won't open" ..... "Try harder" I say. the drivers door doesnt' stick as such. But the bitch of a thing requires you to put your finger behind the top edge of it and pull it open most of the time. I'm guessing it "relaxes" into a groove worn into the catch pin, so it needs to roll up and over it to open.
fast forward 3minutes .... the phone rings "The car won't start" .... "what do you mean it always starts ?". I hear it cranking cranking in the background... " rrr, rrr, rrr ............................. stop ............................. rrr, rrr, rrr" .................................. stop ................................ rrr, rrr, rrr .................. stop .... etc" What are you doing? You know how that car starts, we lived in the damn thing for 6months last year. It'll either start first grunt of the starter ............... Or it cranks for a solid 6seconds before it catches..... So she cranks it more than 2 seconds .... and wow, the damn thing starts" ............................... She doesn't like the fact the plastic on the door trim handles is broken .... and it cuts her. It also really ****es her off the interior interior lights don't work ( pffff.... bull****, they work so well, I removed all the globes to turn the damn things off ).
She is also far than impressed the back window doesn't stay up ( NEVER leave those damn things open when your moving the car around, the bouncing of the glass fatigues and breaks the ball joint off window side with a few short minutes ............................... Guess how I know this). The central locking, it drives her nuts the doors never unlock properly. She doesn't appreciate my idea of "why would I ever lock it? If you never lock it you don't have to worry about unlocking it".
Why can't I get a decent car like everyone else ? She doesn't see my point of view that it's the best ****box I've ever owned. It does everything and anything I want it to do ... it goes anywhere, tows anything ... always starts, always gets us home ..... What else could anyone want from a car ?
Gee's, women right? You just can't please them.

Hi All,
It's been a bit of a gap between updates on "Big Red" - too many other projects..
Anyway - I had the issue a few months back which was a suspect the fuel pump, which has since been replaced. The car has been driving great since then.
Since the day that I bought this car - it has had an unfortunate smell in it.. I suspect because it lived outside on a farm, and rats and mice had gotten into it.
So far I have:
* Steam cleaned the seats and carpet - helped a little bit.
* Removed the underlay carpet from the front foot wells - helped quite a bit.
* Removed the cowling around the steering column and vacuumed it - helped a bit (was a rats nest in there)
* Installed numerous air fresheners - helped a little bit.
But the smell would always come back - especially on a hot day.
I had posted up on another thread - how do you replace the bonnet scuttle filters, and i finally got around to doing that yesterday.
Firstly - removing the various plastic bits is easy, but delicate as the plastic is old, weathered and brittle... I managed to snap one of the plastic knobs on one of the pieces.. The part is NLA - I used some super glue on it but who knows how long it will last. Here is a picture of the parts removed - prior to sanding & painting:
3 Coats of paint later:
Oh - here are the filters (picture taken from the ebay ad):
When I removed the plastic covers - my vehicle did NOT have the filter... I had hoped that the filters would be there, and the source of the smell..
Anyway - I got the vacuum out again, and remove some more rat **** - this time from the outside of the vehicle pointing inwards..
And here is everything re-installed (filters added):
I also removed the entire lower dash from the vehicle and cleaned it, removing even more rat ****...
I didn't drive it but it smells a hell of a lot better now...
Cheers,
GG.
