hi, thanks for the replies. i think we might be talking about different things. i am talking about the shims which sit between the heads and rocker shaft pedestals which are used to set the appropriate preload at the lifters during engine assembly
i understand the shims are the same from 3.5 - 4.6

if you have trouble finding any you could makes them .
Most bearing type places will carry shim material of different makeups , brass , steel etc and should advise you if unsure how to work with it .
Use the base of one of the end pedestals as a guide/template because they have the oil hole in them and if you drill the holes , it will be easier to use the sheet as a whole rather than small pieces .
I have in the past used 3.5 inlet gaskets the factory ones not the aftermarket type .
I got a lifter preload shim kit from RPi some time ago when I bought a Piper Torquemax, don't remember price but probably expensive (because it is RPi) but it did have everything you needed.
