Interesting project,, love to watch it unfold.
Hi All,
New (or almost new) member of the Classic club, pick up tomorrow.
My plans are to perform a rolling resto mod over 6 months to my RRC. Its a 1992 Vogue.
Current plans are:
Short term:
Respray - Im going with a more modern colour option to make it stand out a bit more - Nardo Grey is my preference at the moment.
Suspension - Ive looked at a few options here - Kinglsey's UK fast Suspension looks like a great option - anyone have that set up? Also looking at OME kit - interested in feedback on this point.
Wheels - Im actually looking at 18inch Sawtooth in Black with 265/60/18 ATs on it - I know its not classic look but I think this will be quite interesting like the East Coast Defender mock ups of their RRC restos.
Longer term:
Interior - over time Im looking to get it redone but will have to save up for it over time - the above will cost a bit
Engine - looking to do a modern conversion to an LS3 with Auto.
Wish me luck - I'll post build shots as I go.
Cheers
Interesting project,, love to watch it unfold.
I too will be watching with interest. Love to see how the engine swap goes.
Nardo grey will be interesting, that colour looks like clear coated primer
04 L322 Vogue V8 - Work truck
07 Freelander 2 TD4 SE - The wifes
74 Leyland P76 Targa Florio - Aspen Green
91 Kawasaki GPZ900R
Previous LRs = 78IIa series - 81, 93, 95 RRC - D2V8
I'll be watching, currently playing with 5 RRC's and would like to see how you go with the donk swap.
5 on the go, you're either divorced or super lucky lol. Search for the RRC is still continuing, have missed out on a super decent one that was local in Melbourne and starting to advance the search north. Will keep posted. For the Donk swap I probably won't tackle this one by myself, definitely will be sourcing some assistance.
Well I have purchased the RRC. Got a 1991 Vogue that was on here for sale. Really happy with it so far, few bits of surface rust, under the carpets and on the rear window but thats about it. Drove really well down the fwy, speedo was on the money, cruised at 110km and felt tight through the steering. Been commuting to work in it and its very easy around town too.
Have so far:
- New Battery - other one lasted the trip home and that was is.
- Freshened up the grill with a sand and spray.
- Full interior detail - came up a million dollars, was required before I let me missus in it.
- Sanded and primed a few areas of surface rust - window, passenger door
Immediate plans after going through it a bit more over the last few days:
- Carpets up and sand and prime, paint the floors - lay sound deadener in both sides and in rear.
- full clean underneath - still carrying a bit of mud and stuff
- New style lenses have been orders - RDX round version - modern look - also need for RWC as both lenses are cracked
- looks like the left swivel hub will need to be looked at too for RWC.
- New audio system BT and Amp and new speakers are required. The 4inch kenwoods are rubbish that are in it at the moment.
Pics to come
work has started this weekend. Got to the drivers floor and the rust appeared minor but as I lifted the rubber it was a big deeper and more aggressive than what I thought - still surface but a bit more advanced than spot rust. A sand clean and spray has been done. I'll then Paint and get som new rubber and sounder deadener into it.
Also knocked over the grill and mirrors with some trim paint. Next up for mind has to be the suspension, Im a bit stuck as to what option to go for so any direction would be great - Ive do a search but no one from what I could find had a great answer.
Atm I have priced 2 options up.
Kinsleys From the UK - shocks, springs and rubbers - $4k
OME Springs and shockers + rubber kit from LRA - 3k - but Im not sure of the ride change with OME will it become too harsh?
Any other thoughts would be great.
Cheers
East Coast Defenders in the US just released pics of their first RRC restomod and that was painted Nardo Grey. Looks pretty tasty!
