    ABS questions

    G'day everyone,

I have a soft dash with the original ABS system and the pump is feeling a bit worn out. I need to, at some point, remove the ABS block anyway to do some rust repairs where the wing joins the firewall. So I was wondering if I could (if anyone has successfully) replace the standard ABS with the ABS out of a 1998 D1? As I have a 1998 D1 with complete ABS system in it.

I would like to keep ABS in the RRC, even if it is not the original system it's my preference. Looking at replacement costs of the RRC ABS pump and the monster WABCO block, the D1 booster with smaller, more modern/normal block seems much more appealing.

    Thanks in advance

I haven't fitted a D1 ABS but have removed a few WABCO units for standard D1 booster sets. The D1 booster is a bolt on, no mods fit to the RRC firewall. My first port of call would be to check the wheel sensors for compatibility, you might have to swap axles or hubs if there are any differences. Part numbers would be a guide. Then check the number of brake pipes to the front calipers, you may have to rejig the D1 calipers with spacers to run on the RRC vented discs. Many D1's still run solids, even on the V8's. Late D1's all have single line front calipers, all WABCO equipped vehicles run two AFAIK.
